Highlights from my 17-year career at EMC include:
Creating a software dev team to build infrastructure software components to integrate EMC storage systems into Microsoft virtual and cloud environments through System Center. I hired a team of developers in Redmond and created SCOM management packs to enable storage fault discovery and remediation, health modeling and application performance monitoring, providing data to SCSM and SCCM. I also engaged with joint EMC/Microsoft customers to implement an extensive beta program, and worked with Microsoft field and sales on GTM initiatives.
Implementing a BU-wide innovation process for generating and collecting intellectual property. The program was very successful, and reinvigorated a sharp technical team who had become downtrodden after a litany of management and direction changes. During my tenure as BU CTO, the Infrastructure Software Group generated significant number unique ideas, most of which became product features, and/or were granted patent awards. During that time, I organized and ran several Innovation Conferences, including two in Israel. This innovation process was adopted by the Corporate Office of the CTO and became the template for the EMC annual global innovation challenge.
As part of executive sponsorship activities, I managed a large project to create a converged IT infrastructure solution for Walmart stores. This was a significant effort that required crafting custom hardware and software from internal and external suppliers, and culminated in EMC selling into most store locations. Corporately, this program created a focused global sales and support effort in the retail vertical space.
After creating specific practices around clustered systems, disaster recovery and high-availability environments, I managed the development and implementation of several key infrastructure storage software solutions. These solutions were deployed by EMC’s largest customers (Microsoft used them in their production Exchange and IT environments) and were responsible for significant software revenue and hardware drag.
