Managed domestic group sales for the state of Rhode Island, including running a $100,000 program with 20-25% of funding coming from the state budget, remaining funds generated through self-initiated cooperative marketing. Handled group advertising, planned and executed familiarization tours through the state for potential clients. Designed tour product reflecting current market trends to attract new higher-end group visitors to the state, consulted with attractions to do the same. Brought businesses not traditionally considered “tourism related” into tourism, such as the fishing and agriculture industries. Instrumental in creating culinary tourism marketing in Rhode Island. Planned and executed the first New England Culinary Tourism Conference in conjunction with the International Culinary Tourism Association, which was held at the Publick House. Key player in creating Agri-tourism in Rhode Island with the Rhode Island Center for Agricultural Promotion and Education. Marketed Rhode Island as a tourism destination at national and regional travel trade shows. Recruited two major travel trade shows to convene in Rhode Island, resulting in direct spending plus return revenues of over $1M. Served on local committee as needed, including Tall Ships events and the RI Seafood Marketing Committee. Trained industry as needed. Collected and shared sales leads with regional tourism councils.
