I currently work as the Controller of Aviagen, Inc. the world’s largest supplier/distributor of poultry breeding stock. In that role I am responsible for managing all phases of accounting for two companies, with over 400 cost centers, including six hatcheries (essentially a manufacturing facility). This includes the monthly close, preparation of financial statements, benchmarking reports, budget and forecasts, assisting in capital expenditure evaluation, variance analysis, banking and US treasury functions and the day-to-day accounting functions.
As Controller I am the primary contact with our annual financial audit team and have a role in the design, implementation and evaluation of internal controls. Aviagen is also and ISO certified company. I am responsible for assuring that the accounting department complies with our ISO requirements.
In addition to my eleven years of Controller experience at Aviagen, I have served in the VP of Finance/Controller position with smaller companies in both the manufacturing and the service sectors and have public accounting experience as an auditor and consultant. Aviagen is the world’s leading poultry breeder for the broiler industry. Aviagen, Inc. and Aviagen North America, Inc. are the company’s largest subsidiaries with breeding operations in North America and sales to more than 40 countries. Aviagen is an ISO certified company.
Responsible for the preparation of financial statements and management reports, budget and forecast preparations and accounting department operating functions. The statements have over 400 cost and revenue centers. While I have worked as Controller we have speeded up the monthly close by two business days despite a significant increase in the number of reports required and company growth of over 200%.
Manage banking relationships. I consolidated the treasury function of all North American Aviagen companies eliminating redundant accounts, and freeing up cash for operations.
Implemented an internet based purchase order system eliminating paperwork and speeding up the purchasing process.
Implemented a purchase card system to eliminate small invoices, reducing purchasing costs.
Investigated and resolved fraud allegations in administrations and operations.
Experienced with Microsoft Dynamics, Management Reporter, Forecaster, and Office. I managed the initial implementation of Microsoft’s Forecaster product.
Implemented an ACH program for vendors and employee payroll and a debit card payroll program for employees who are not bankable to reduce the cost of payables processing.
