September 2011 Supervisor Systems Administration for CDK Global in Portland, OR
Supervisor: Johan Almgren
to
Present As a Supervisor Systems Administration at CDK, I am responsible
for leading a team which focuses on architecting and optimizing
enterprise level solutions for a multi-tenant hosting
environment providing SaaS solutions for the automotive
industry. This entails supporting, optimizing and building a
hosted environment of roughly 2500 servers and our global
internal infrastructure comprised of nearly 2000 servers.
My main focus in this position is daily managerial tasks, design
and architect new infrastructure related solutions to drive
efficiency, lower operating costs and increase infrastructure
security. Examples of this include my re-architecture of our
enterprise wide Windows patching solution, enterprise wide
Anti-virus solution and enterprise wide FTP/SFTP solution. I
have redesigned these solutions to provide more security,
increased reporting for SOX compliance, increased stability and
scalability. These solutions now span global data centers
providing highly available services and a lowered cost to
operate, reduced administrative overhead and 'technical debt'.
Daily tasks include managing priorities and workflow for my
team, coaching team members on technology and career path, and
advanced troubleshooting (tier 3) for Windows platform related
issues. I have driven multiple projects including those listed
above, geographical software repositories using DFS and several
product line environment builds. I am extremely familiar with
P2V activities as I performed P2V tasks on hundreds of servers.
April 2011 While working on this team, I have been a mentor figure for new
to hires. I have been able to on-board and ramp up new team members
July 2011 quickly and efficiently by creating documentation for both
typical and a-typical tasks coupled with direct communication
via screen shares and phone calls.
Environment: VMWare, Windows Server 2003 to 20012, DHCP, DNS, F5
LTM, AWStats, McAfee EPO, Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM
and Microsoft Clustering.
Contract Systems Engineer for Technisource in Bay City Michigan
Supervisor: Jean Ryan
With Technisource, I served as a temporary contract Systems
Engineer for our client Anthelio Inc. which is an enterprise
class complete IT solutions provider for regional medical
centers across the country. I mainly served the 8 regional
medical centers in southern Michigan, as well as our data center
in Baton Rouge, LA. I also managed enterprise level Novell,
Groupwise, and Active Director systems as well as Tivoli Storage
Manager systems. Additionally I worked with Dell Powervault
storage solutions using iSCSI and Fiber channel connections,
ESX/VMware servers as well as multiple other systems used to
deliver quality health services for hospital patients.
I served as a mentor figure to several of Anthelio's staff to
help them understand more complex technologies such as Linux
administration and high level documentation for current and new
systems within the IT environment. I researched solutions to
common issues found within the environment and create training
documentation for other Engineers to use to resolve such issues.
Environment: VMware, Windows OS (XP to 2008R2),Active Directory,
Linux, VSphere, Websense, Groupwise, Novell, Tivoli Storage
Manager, Citrix, ITIL.
November 2010 Systems Engineer for Healthsense in Mendota Heights Minnesota
to Supervisor: Keith Butler
March 2011
As a systems engineer I maintained network infrastructure at
senior living communities across the country. The systems I
supported provide wireless connectivity for residents as well as
a call system and location tracking for the medical staff on
site to better assist the residents. I also maintained the
internal IT infrastructure of the company. This included end
user support, server side support and research and development
of new technologies and products.
While working with Healthsense, I took the lead role working on
an issue with network camera surveillance the company had
struggled with for over 2 years. I investigated the issue in a
top down method researching features and limitations of the
system while documenting expectations of the clients. This
allowed me to correct the issue in a short amount of time while
also teaching users on proper system use.
Environment: 4 data centers, Dell PowerEdge servers, Juniper
firewalls, Cisco and Dell switches, DNS, DHCP, Linux, Unix, Mac
OS, Windows Server 2003, 2008, XP Pro, Active Directory, VMware,
Xen Server.
May 2009 IT Support Specialist for Northland Business Systems in
to Burnsville Minnesota
November 2010 Supervisor: Dereck Leyde
While working with Northland, I managed and improved several
aspects of our IT environment. I was a lead technician on our
main product and worked directly with end users to troubleshoot
both simple and complex issues. This involved remote support
using PC Anywhere, LogMeIn, and GoToMeeting. I also performed
in-depth trainings, created detailed user documentation and made
all aspects of the recording system stable and easy to use. This
required working within PCI and HIPPA guidelines as we worked
with medical centers, government agencies, airports and law
offices.
I supported and improved our internal network that consisted of
8 servers that ranged from Windows NT to Windows Server 2008R2.
Other aspects of the IT infrastructure that I managed included
network layout planning, system documentation, disaster recovery
planning and testing, research into new products and revenue
streams to increase RoI and efficiency. As a special project I
undertook, I transitioned the company from a hosted email
solution to an internal email solution using Exchange 2003. This
allowed for more flexibility for email storage and retention as
well as a cost savings for the company of over $3000 annually.
Environment: Windows Server 2003 - 2008, XP Pro, Windows 2000
Server, Active Directory, WSUS, DNS, DHCP, Exchange 2003,
OpenFire, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Backup Exec, Soaring
CRM, E-Automate, WatchGuard Firewall, and Cisco ASA firewall.
April 2008 Systems Administrator for JobDig in Eden Prairie Minnesota
to Supervisor: Eric Caron
April 2009
At JobDig, I was responsible for maintaining the internal IT
infrastructure and user support for all company employees as
well as carrying out special projects given by upper management.
This included checking servers for errors from the previous
night, ensuring company-wide anti-virus solution was up to date
and all systems were risk free, checking and testing nightly
incremental and full backups to ensure data integrity and
disaster recovery, answering help-desk emails and resolving
issues within a goal of 5 minutes, troubleshooting email issues
including delivery failures, and any special project that may be
pending.
I increased workstation speed and efficiency to double of what
it was before I hired on which allowed users to be more
productive to help increase sales and RoI on equipment and
software already owned. I also increased reliability of all
servers by improving their performance through software patches
and fixes as well as hardware upgrades based on server load and
need. I ensured 99.99% uptime by implementing backup Domain
Controller and Application-File servers and configuring
replication between them. I found cost savings by reviewing and
modifying corporate phone plans which resulted in an annual
savings of at least $7500.
Environment: MS Server 2000 through 2008, MSSQL, Exchange 2003,
Symantec Endpoint Protection, Veritas Backup Exec, Watchguard
Firewall, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Asterisk VoIP.
August 2006 Counter Intelligence Agent for Geek Squad in Eden Prairie
to Minnesota
July 2008 Supervisor: Andrew Lemming
My day-to-day responsibilities included daily ticket inventory
and prioritization based on age and issue severity, meeting
budgeting goals for daily, weekly and monthly periods and PC
setup and repair. I took on additional responsibilities that
included new employee training, veteran employee coaching,
ensuring all paperwork was PCI compliant as well as Best Buy
Standard Operating Procedure compliant.
I also increased client satisfaction through improved work
quality and time management methods, most notably my exceptional
organizational and multitasking abilities. Clients were
consistently satisfied with my work and often commented to
superiors about their satisfaction due to me taking the time to
properly communicate with them about the issue and their
expectations.
Environment: Windows 98 to Windows Vista, several user
applications such as MS Office and Anti-virus software, Geek
Squad proprietary software tools and manual software repair and
malware removal.
