Mig welding is the process of welding we use also have the use of plama cutting machines, and oxyfuel cutting and burning torches. We also have to rework some racks to accept new components for the industry.

I was welding parts on trailers for roll off containers, welding the top then flipping the trailers over on its side using two 10 ton overhead cranes. Once the side was fully welded with intalling proper gussets and accessories would use the two cranes to flip over to other side and repeat the process. Then fully weld the bottom install proper axles, u bolts center pin, air bags, air tanks, all in the correct areas. An install proper towers for axles layout are with tape measure and align everything properly and fully weld. Install axles weld in place and then square up axles for proper alignment and move trailer to front of shop using cranes. Also had to use plasma cutter, torches and mig welding machines for the job. I worked for a company called Watson Engineering in Taylor mi, putting parts into fixtures and looking over the blueprints for proper welding instructions. Including what type of welding and proper welding sequence in which the company wanted the parts welded. After welding was completed I would clean the part of welding splatter using a chisel and 90 degree air die gringer with a soft pad. Next would remove the part from fixture and install it in another text part fixture and install all pins. To make sure part has not warped from to much heat or inproper fixture alignment. Last step was to place parts on empty pallet and place a piece of cardboard on top of part.

Worked on enclosed semi trailers that had to be overhalled either 48' or 53' trailers. We would remove smashed or dented trailer walls and install new ones using rivets using an air hammer and solid piece of bar stock with one person on each side. Remove old wiring and install new with new rubber grommets, side markers, and brake lights all were led. We would remove old rear swing out door and the header above the door and install new header and side walls if needed. Installlation of new slide rails for new slide up door were put in and new door and sometime we would install lift gates on rear of trailer. Axle assembly would be removed and rebuilt one put in it's place moved back 9 holes in the frame and gussets welded to strengthen the frame. Had to use of arc welding, mig welding, plasma machines, bandsaws and air tools.

I worked for a company called Argus in Redford Township, welding on various types of racks for the automotive industry. The racks would be retro fitted with new parts for different applications. We would have to cut sections out using either a plasma cutting machine or using oxyfuel torches then the fitters would install new parts an we would weld it back together.

We made wear resistance plate in many different thicknesses for the mining industry. My duties included running a machine which held a large round drum which had to plates welded to together on the drum with backing bars to hold both plates together. The drums would rotate and be overlayed with a process called chromium carbide, each drum would take several hours to fully overlayed depending on its lenght. Also would work in welding area installing the half moon plates onto the drums using mild steel wire using a mig welder. Would use an hi-lo to install the plates first the bottom then install drum then install top and properly align plates using pry bars and hammers. Once places are on drum correctly we would install backing bars in channel on drums and both weld plates together with three passes.
