10/15 to 2/16 Analyze orders received to assure they meet requirements for services ordered.

Using ICD-10 - code all diagnosis for insurance verifications. Verify the insurance for each patient and get special authorizations for special supplies. Create files in AS400 to produce Certificates of Medical Necessity for physician signatures. Monitor each file for yearly recertification needs and follow up with the physician. Do weekly loose filing, Scan documents to Regional Billing office daily.

Answer phone calls and handle patient requests accordingly. Attend morning meetings to discuss setups for oxygen, CPAP and Nebulizers from the prior day or weekend setups. Assure compliance with all insurance requirements, as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Assist customers who come in to the office requesting supplies or have questions. Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital Manager/Lead Coder, Full Time

7/07 to 8/14 Responsible for all ICD-9 coding of all history and physicals, discharge summaries, procedures, and at least twice a week concurrent coding of all inpatient charts for all 40 beds. Monitor physician dictation for daily notes and accuracy. Audit all charts while coding for correct filing and signatures from all clinical staff. Submit physician queries for coding questions. Assure compliance to all state and federal regulations. Final coding of all charts within 3 days of discharge so the billing can drop. Attend all manager meetings and input any changes with rules and regulations that related to HIM Dept. Supervised a clerk who assembled charts and copied, processed release of information requests. Assured HIPAA were met with all releases and staff throughout the facility and educate all new staff and do yearly review as required. Assigned and reviewed all DRG codes prior to admission to assure they met the long term hospital criteria for length of stay. When doing concurrent coding, assisted the HUC with some duties to discharge patients or transfer them to appointments. Also assisted all other staff with questions related to charting, billing and coding. Maintained a 98% coding accuracy on coding which passed all Joint Commission and CMS audits. Mentored students from the SCC and NIC HIT programs. Assisted coding other Ernest Health facilities when needed to keep patient data update and meeting all required timelines for billing. In October 2013, trained and coded for the rehabilitation hospital adjacent to the LTACH hospital for 6 months. 5/02 to 7/07 Responsible for managing all the medical records areas in the organization:

Inpatient (70 bed), outpatient, psychology, cardiac therapy, children’s therapy, aquatic therapy, and several satellite offices. Supervised filing, coding, release of information, HIPAA education, and clinical staff charting. Was a member of the city HIM department heads collaborating on interoperability with patient information and establishing MediTech EMR. Was a member of the Medical Staff Services for all Spokane hospitals’. Worked as a team with other credentialing staff to process all the many physicians throughout the Spokane area to share files and specialities. Assisted Medical Director with St. Luke’s credentialing process as well as planned meetings, took minutes, typed up minutes, scheduled meetings with physicians staff, and planned meals for each meeting. Assisted all coding staff with coding to keep current on requirements in all aspects. Had education classes to assure coding staff were aware of all the changes in rules and coding changes. Audited all coders for accuracy and assured that they were 93% or above in coding accuracy. Educated managers of any changes in rules and procedures that needed attention. Attended monthly managers meetings and participated in staff appreciation team committee. Assured that all HIM areas met Joint Commission and CMS rules. Worked 10 months after starting and got the deficiencies of the medical staff from 400% to 12%. Worked with a legal team to re-write the Medical Staff by-laws yearly and distribute to all physicians who were on staff or affiliated with St. Luke’s. Trained clerical staff on basic outpatient coding so we had backup if needed. Set up a scanning system of records for storage and reduce thick charts.

Spokane Mental Health Manager Full Time

5/98 to 5/02 Responsible for supervision of 22 employees in 12 sites for medical records. Assured compliance with all Washington RCW and WAC rules. Coded patient records in ICD-9 and DSM-IV. Supervised the ordering of medication from psychiatrist orders for patients. Was responsible for purging files to offsite storage – meeting state rules for destruction of old records. Developed a tracking system in a spread sheet format to assist with the purging process and destruction. When I started I purged records from 1982 to 1988. Created procedure manuals for each area of the department. Worked with staff to create a team environment and cross trained staff so the departments worked smooth and efficient.
