SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

Present - D.J Puff Consulting, Grand Rapids, MI - Consultant (PM, PE, C & E PM, Instructor/Training and Sales Engineer)

Material Handling Consultant with over (20) years, providing leadership on projects: mega DC order fulfillment centers, food/beverage industry, auto/truck systems and coal/gypsum for power generation industry where my career began. Recently, as Assistant PM and Project PM respectively for Roberts and Schaefer in Chicago, IL on (2) fossil fuel projects valued at ($15M) & ($35M). My responsibilities included vendor evaluation for outside design services and buy out systems (all deliverables). My primary project at R&S was Progress/Duke Energy coal & gypsum handling upgrades at Crystal River, FL site. SC project was wrapping up completion and the DE project was being defined with scope and constraints when I was assigned the projects.

Contracted with RPS Engineering of Elgin IL, designing aluminum, stainless and FRP methane gas capture structural covers for 100’ diameter wastewater treatment tanks for potential alternative power generation. Also competed beta project using FRP materials which was a new endeavor for me. The material was required due to the caustic liquid that was being flow controlled at the FRP Froth Hood (foam separation) in waste water treatment.

Contracted by McLane Company of Temple, TX as owner’s agent to inspect existing DC (17) sites for: expansion of DC automation systems, and perform maintenance audits of existing systems. Safety Plan development. As owner’s agent I approved systems being installed by Rapistan /Dematic and Intelligrated Systems throughout US Distribution Centers. ($15M- Several)

Contracted by Ermanco Inc. a systems manufacturer/ integrator to inspect installed systems, trouble shoot sortation problems dc operating systems and also to develop their prototype high speed induction equipment. ($1M - $5M)

Contracted with EDUstaff to teach Algebra, Physics and science in Kent County MI.

2008 – 2009 Sargent & Lundy LLC, Chicago, IL - PM On Site – Liaison

PM/Engineering Liaison at electric power generation expansion project for Sargent & Lundy. The Ameren project scope included expansion to coal handling, precipitator replacement, SO2 stack replacement, and new gypsum handling systems. As Liaison I provided daily interface w/ S&L utility customer Ameren staff along w/ all on site contractor’s management staff to coordinate progress. My deliverables and daily activities included: on site engineering, administration, administrate EWO and ECO’s, and provide mechanical-civil-structural engineering site investigation for immediate response to issues needing site survey or verification.

1998 - 2000 DPI Distribution Planning, Inc., Grand Rapids, MI. - C & E PM

Project Manager providing concept, engineering & estimating for all deliverable relative to automated material handling systems in very large DC’s: grocery distribution, general merchandise, manufacturing storage, and e-commerce distribution systems. My job included: customer Interaction, C & E development, data collection & evaluation, building selection, scheduling, vendor qualification, procurement and site installation inspection. NEW systems mfg. technology for integration into future projects to maintain our leadership role as systems providers for automated material handling and order delivery systems.

Senior Project Engineer responsible for material handling systems operation, project engineering, mechanical equipment application, systems performance, project costs, project administration and staff utilization. Directly supervised 6 -12 engineering personnel assigned to my projects. Responsible for project deliverables successful operation of systems valued at $13,000,000 (1988) included: Prototype - Walmart DC’s (4), BETA Site - Walmart Return Goods Center, Kellogg’ Package system. K-Mart DC’s (2), Whirlpool Appliance Systems (3) for Mfg and Distribution, and HP/ Compaq Mfg. & DC. Completed all projects 10% below estimated “as sold” cost. Received MH Excellence Awards for Wal-Mart and Compaq Computer Projects.

1980 – 1983 National Waterlift Corp., Kalamazoo, MI. - Facilities Project Engineer

Developed capital improvement projects for Pneumo Corp. / NWL Projects included: planning, time studies, estimates, QC inspection, scheduling, plant design and construction safety compliance on $8M (1981) aerospace manufacturing plant expansion which doubled the manufacturing areas. Developed design for companies first “Clean Room” for Information Systems, CAM and CADD Systems. Developed Hazardous, Lubricants & Waste Containment Farm and also Toxic Material containment.

1978 - 1980 William DeVries and Sons, Grand Rapids, MI. - Project Engineer

Developed construction documents, estimates for new construction and expansion to existing facilities for this “turn-key” design/build general contractor. Projects included: Grace Christian Reformed Church, Wayland City Office Facilities, Holland Bowling Center & Steelcase Carton DC.

1974 - 1978 Commonwealth/Gilbert Associates Inc., Jackson, MI. – C & S. Designer

Renovation and expansion projects at fossil fuel electric generation plants for Detroit Edison, Consumer’s Power. Had security clearance for (3 years) on (3) nuclear enrichment projects for US ERDA. Primary assignments: civil /structural projects, site drainage, equipment access & access road work, material handling support structures, interior/ exterior support structures including foundations, field assignments, onsite site surveys, created civil/structural project designs, verified vendor shop drawings. Selected for on-site testing and commissioning team. Obtained U.S. Government – Security Clearance.
