Finishing and Packaging Department Manager August 2012 – Present

Tate and Lyle Sucralose McIntosh, AL

Overall responsibility for purification, packaging operations and logistics for sucralose (Splenda) production. Direct supervision of 7 employees and 16 indirect/contractors. Responsible for all department safety, food safety, quality and environmental compliance. Also responsible for plant CAPEX budgeting and spend.

Accomplishments

Major contributor in the $14MM plant restart and led re-commissioning activities within the department. This included developing and executing commissioning plans, leading PSM/PHA revalidations, and reviewing process safety checks. The result was a plant restart that was 35% ahead of schedule and 20% below budget with zero safety incidents.

Lead team to debottleneck powder milling operation that improved throughput by over 25%.

Project Manager of global sucralose logistics study that implemented processes to save over $1MM in logistics.

Overall responsibility for process optimization and improvements, and project engineering coordination of the chemical recovery and utilities area.

Member on plant wide energy optimization diagnostic team. Identified over $5MM of annual savings and implemented projects for $750k in savings.

Plant process lead on anaerobic biogas digester pilot plant for scale-up to commercial demonstration unit and industrial unit operation.

Production Manager August 2006 – July 2010

USA Yeast Company Hattiesburg, MS

Overall responsibility for production activities in a highly automated specialty/food yeast plant. Direct supervision of 9 Process Technicians and Laboratory Manager. Coordinated daily with Maintenance Manager, Controller, HR Manager, and Customer Service Representative to efficiently run the entire business operation. Responsible for raw material and chemical purchases, production planning, plant safety, environmental, and food safety (including HAACP, AIB, GFSI and GMP programs).

Accomplishments

Debottlenecked plant to efficiently increase production from 65 to 85 million pounds per year.

Headed team that decreased product bacterial contamination from >106 cfu/ml to <100 cfu/ml.

Modified plant employee duties and responsibilities that reduced production headcount by 25%.

Overall responsibility for production in a high calcium rotary kiln lime plant. Directly responsible for 4 supervisors and 15 indirect hourly employees. Responsible for overall plant production costs, process improvement projects, safety and environmental compliance.

Accomplishments

Plant Project Lead for $45MM plant expansion. Coordinated with Construction Manager and Project Manager to ensure operational issues were identified and corrected before startup.

Successfully modified equipment to increase production of higher margin products by 10%.
