Sample Engagements:

Worked with the owner of a small construction company to develop an employee handbook and establish a disciplinary process. Resulted in his ability to successfully address most performance issues and avoid wrongful termination lawsuits.

Designed and conducted an HR audit of a 500-employee nonprofit organization following the departure of the VP Human Resources. Identified, prioritized, and implemented action items including development of an HR budget, resolution of employee relations issues, regulatory compliance, and file administration. Provided proactive leadership on employee relations, non-exempt recruiting and compensation, employee benefits and workers’ compensation administration, safety, and OSHA compliance.

Supported managers in resolving outstanding EEOC complaints, wrongful termination complaints, and internal theft investigations with minimal legal fees and no lawsuits.

Quickly identified and hired two well-qualified candidates for hard-to-fill manager positions in Seattle and San Francisco.

Workers’ Compensation Specialist 2005 to 2006

Aeroground, Inc. San Francisco, CA

A 1,700-employee, $150 million cargo/transportation/warehousing company serving airlines in North America and Asia.

Led workers’ compensation function for 40 U.S. terminals.

Significant Accomplishments:

Implemented a safety BINGO program that significantly reduced injuries and related expenses. The company’s worst performing terminal reduced its costs from $22,000 to $500 in the first quarter of 2006.

Proactively started addressing open workers’ compensation claims. Closed 92% of claims within one year and reduced reserve by $450,000. This translated into a reduced MOD rate, from 120% to 75%, and lower premiums.

Created a set of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to inform management of progress on safety and workers’ compensation issues. Invited to join Kitty Hawk, Inc. after their executives sat in on one of these presentations.

Negotiated relationship with new EAP provider that resulted in increased service and a $120,000 reduction in annual expense.

Reason for leaving: Accepted Kitty Hawk, Inc.’s offer because Aeroground owners were in the process of selling all assets and dissolving the company.
