Finite element modeling for structural problems that include upper structure & modelling, soil
structure interaction in the case of static, dynamic, linear & non linear. As a professor of the
University of Indonesia, he competencies in the areas of Finite Element Methods[2].
DKMT/Q (Discrete Kirchhoff-Midlin Triangular/Quadrilateral) element was developed by
him in 1993. DKMT/Q element is a very good triangular/quadrilateral element which can take
into account the transverse shear strain and it gives a good result in isotropic analysis for thin
and thick plate problems. Moreover, DKMT/Q element is used in commercial software
MIDAS-GEN and ROBOT.
He has been developing UI-FEAP (University of Indonesia Finite Element Analysis
Program) using fortran language and visual basic programming languages.

Implementation of Error Estimator Z2 for MITC Element Bending Plate
Abstract:
Since FEM is an approximation method where exact solution is estimated using repetition
in descretisation process by increasing the number of element or refining the element size,
a discretisation strategy must be taken in each mesh refinement process. The scale of error
at each mesh size can only be estimated since no exact solution exists. Hence, what
becomes important is how to estimate the scale of error, how much the acceptable error
limit is, and what discretisation strategy should be taken, numerical integration,
inaccuracy of numerical solution, or rounding error in numerical process. A complex
problem usually has no exact solution, therefore the error occurred is also difficult to
determine. Error estimator is developed to gain solution as close as possible compares to
exact solution.

This thesis is to show how to error estimator of the finite element solution and how to
minimize such errors by forming adaptive mesh based on Zienkiewicz-Zhu error
estimator or Z2 in plate bending element. This error estimator based on the recovery of
force in the finite element solution results noncontinuous to be continuous. This estimator
is implemented in the UI-FEAP (using fortran programming language for calculation
and visual basic programming language for graphical plots), so that the existing
examples we can see, how it can solve various problems on the structural analysis using
MITC bending plate elements. The results is then compared with ANSYS software
package.

Mekani is one of nine students who received the medal in the Loyola Graduation Celebration for
the result of the national exam from KEKL. KEKL (Keluarga Eks Kolese Loyola) is an
organization for alumni of Kolese Loyola High School[12].
Kolese Loyola Semarang [8], [9] is considered as the prestigious senior high school in Indonesia
since very long time ago. In the 2016 Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia released that
Kolese Loyola is ranked 2nd in Indonesia [10],[11],[12],[15].
It is established by Society of Jesus[9], (Society of Jesus are the order of the Church Roman
Catholic. The union was founded in 1534 by a group of students graduate of the University of
Paris who were friends of Iigo Lpez de Loyola); along with Kolese Kanisius Jakarta, Kolese

Father of Mekani Dewasari
Bambang Dewasa was one of the best structural engineer ever in Semarang, Indonesia. He
worked as a lecturer in Civil Engineering, State University of Semarang (UNNES) and
practitioner in several engineering consultants. PT. Pola Dwipa Semarang is one where he

produced works highly admired today[16] since 1976. He was a head of construction division in
1980s[26].
For us, as his colleagues, we greatly miss him and appoint him as a lecturers icon: humble,
idealistic and intelligent[17],[19],[21]. When people have not thought about something, he has
been self-taught with the advanced literature in his era[19]. He collected thousands of import
books since 1970s.
He was the first engineer in Semarang who design structure by using computer. He has learned
basic programming language since 1979 by using pocket computer, which can be attached with 4
colours small printer. He bought Personal Computer (PC) at home in 1983 and continue to learn
other programming languages[26].
Even he is very humble, from his engineering design:
Keong Mas; He is involded in design team of Keong Mas[26]. Keong Mas Imax theatre is easily
recognized because the roof takes the shape a golden snail, located in the Taman Mini Indonesia
Indah (TMII) Jakarta. It is founded on the initiative of former Indonesian first lady, Tien
Suharto[22],[23],[24],[25];
the roof of his residence[18] on Kelud Raya Street Semarang, with hypar (hyperbola parabola)
shell structure with a thickness of 5cm including finishing, is captured by Suara Merdeka, Central
Java newspaper, in 1979 [26];
the structure of folded plate roof top of Karang Rejo Swimming Pool[18];
hypar (hyperbola parabola) shell structure as foundation in Villa Marina[26];
until the structure with small columns at Dr. Cipto Street Semarang,
shows that he is highly advanced engineer ever owned by the Semarang City[18].
One of the his characteristic that should be followed, is his humbleness. Continue to work without
expecting a reward for his dedication. It is remarkable in this era, which is narcissistic and
materialistic[16]. No exaggeration, if we dream of returning to the heyday of Civil Engineering
UNNES in the era of the 80s where there was an respected engineer who is able to take part in the
consultancy world of the building structure. He is Bambang Dewasa[20].
So no wonder if he received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2012, how inspiring it is[19].
