Structural Geology: Participated in a three day field trip to the Baraboo, Wisconsin area where “strike and dip” and “plunge and bearing” measurements were taken at several locations to determine the orientation and history of the Baraboo Syncline.
Mineralogy: Participated in a three day field trip to the Michigan peninsula where the mineral composition was studied at several stops to determine environmental history of the rock formations in the area. Hydrogeology: Lecture focusing on groundwater occurrence, physics of flow, aquifer characteristics, ground water resources, environmental hydrogeology, and basic groundwater chemistry including aspects of groundwater contamination.
Soil Science: Lecture, field and laboratory study of physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils with emphasis on soil development, classification, geography, management, and conservation. Soil Geography and Land Use Planning: Information of regional and local problems of soil utilization and management with strategies for using soil data in land use plans and legislation. Knowledge of specific soil horizons and the makings of each horizon gathered as well.
Environmental Geology Field Camp: Course covered topics such as field methods in hydrology, water quality analysis, ecosystem health, environmental surface geophysics, site evaluation and techniques, and regional landscape history and environmental change.
