Description: Methane is produced from organic wastes by concerted action of various groups of anaerobic bacteria. An attempt has been made in this project review on the work done by understanding the microbial diversity in biogas digesters, their interactions, factor’s affecting biogas production, alternate feed stocks, and uses of spent slurry. The purpose of this report of literature and research summary was to emphasize potential problems and benefits associated with application of organic waste.

IIT BOMBAY --- CHEM-E-CAR

Project: Chemical Powered Car

Objective: To modify a car which is powered by reaction between acetic acid and baking soda, the carbon dioxide that is produced is stored in a pressure vessel until the car is run. At the starting line, a ball valve is opened which allows the gas to flow through pneumatic motor which pulls the car forward.

Changed chemicals used in generating pressure to allow for a safer reaction

Tested stopping reaction for repeatable performance added a stir mechanism to ensure an even mixture of chemicals for most effective and consistent performance.
