JOB DESCRIPTION:

Conduct laboratory examinations to aid the physician in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of diseases.

Hematology:

Primarily concerned with the study of the formed elements of the blood, which includes CBC such as hemoglobin, hematocrit, WBC, RBC study, PLT count and DC, MCH, MCHC, MCV and ESR. Perform and study peripheral smears, reticulocytes count, blood morphology, malarial smear etc. Perform coagulation profile such as PT, PTT, Fibrinogen, FDP, BT & CT. Perform sickle cell anemia, Hb Electrophoresis, G6PD test. Perform fluid analysis such as C.S.F, Peritoneal fluid, semen analysis, pleural fluid etc.

Blood Bank:

Blood transfusion is a major medical service provided by the blood banks. Functions in the collection, storage and processing of blood from healthy donors in accordance with the safety of the recipients. Compatibility test is very important prior to transfusion in order to know the discrepancy present in the donor's blood and the recipient's blood, and to make sure that the blood is free from any transmissible disease. Perform ELISA test for the detection of HIV, HbsAg, aHTLV, HCV virus & VDRL test also. Primarily performs the usual blood banking procedures such as blood typing, cross matching procedures and the direct and indirect coomb's test, hemoglobin and liver function test for the donor. prior to its processing. Perform ABO and Rh blood grouping in both forward and reverse typing procedure. Perform both major and minor cross matching where in all three phases are determined such as Thermo phase, Saline Phase and the Globulin Phase.

Serology:

Perform ELISA test for the detection of HIV, all hepatitis markers like HbsAg, HbeAg, HCV, aHAV IgM, HBS- Ab, HBC- Ab, TORCH panel, Tuberculosis (IgG, IgM, IgA), Dengue, Leptospira, etc. Perform culture and sensitivity of samples like blood, pus, stool, body fluids, urine, sputum, tracheal aspirate, catheter tip, AFB, Vaginal Swab etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Performs biochemical, hematological, immunological and / or microbiologic tests and examination on human samples.

2.Prepare reagents or media for prescribed procedures.

3.Maintains laboratory instruments, including calibration, performance checks, and routine maintenance as prescribed by the manufacturer.

4.Report quality control results and initiates corrective actions. Maintains quality control assurance program.

5.Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or finger stick.

6.Provides technical instruction for patients who undergoing technical procedures.

7.Performs related work as requested by the physician.

8.Maintains equipments and records.

9.Participates in the evaluation of new procedures.

10.Keeps and prepare monthly statistics of patients records.

11.Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.

12.Operate manual and automated laboratory equipments to make qualitative and quantitative analysis of specimens.

13.Maintains laboratory cleanliness and orderly.
