Engineering & Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities: Manage all engineering, instrumentation and maintenance functions to support the operation and growth of the (24/7) 175 person Corsicana plant including process innovation & optimization, instrumentation, project implementation, and mechanical integrity of a PSM regulated facility. Staff includes 9 direct reports, 2 rotating Co-Op positions and 23 indirect reports. Responsible for developing and implementing an annual capital budget up to $25 MM with oversight of a corporate initiative of $160 MM for a brown-field, new product line project in Corsicana.

Achievements: Successful implementation, on-time, within budget of many capital projects including a $9 MM blend plant expansion, $13 MM new high temp / pressure reactor implementation, and multiple reactor, vessel and tank replacements. New production / product implementation of Amines, Nitriles and Imidazolines including high pressure hydrogenation. Revamped Haz-OP program as part of PSM and implemented a world class mechanical integrity program being used as a basis for other sister facilities. Successfully graduated four Co-Op’s in which three have entered the ECOLAB leadership development program (LDP) and have a rotating LDP member as part of staff. Managing director of the corporate giving program which donates funds to local charities twice a year with an annual budget of $50,000.

Kerry Ingredients & Flavors, Lakeland, FL April 2009-June 2011

Director of Operations / Sr. Plant Manager

Responsibilities: Complete operation of two manufacturing facilities, Lakeland which operates (24/7) with 110 operational employees and the Plant City location operating (24/5) with 40 operational employees and a support staff of 15, including Finance, R&D, IT, HR and Customer Service covering both Florida locations. Major unit operations of distillation, extraction and compounding are employed to create the product portfolio as the Citrus Center of Excellence for the corporation. Plant City provides freeze dried powders of juice concentrates, including isotonics. Responsible for the sourcing and contract negotiations for purchasing of all citrus raw materials. Worked closely with R&D to bring new products to the market while improving processes to create a competitive advantage with our customer base.

Achievements: Managing $140 MM in annual sales which realized a positive Business Operating Profit (BOP) in 2009, after company had negative BOP for prior six years. Customer satisfaction as measured by on time order delivery increased to 98% during first year with reduction of customer quality complaints and increased product consistency. Implemented a best in class safety program which decreased employee incidents and saved unnecessary costs by involving shop floor staff in job safety management decision making. In 2010, the BOP increased by 15.5% for the company with 20% increase over sales budget and a decrease of $1 MM in operating expenses budget. Developed $10 MM in capital improvement projects to increase production capacity and reduce rework. Maintained on time delivery metric of 98% while increasing product quality and improving first pass yield results.

Firmenich Inc., Lakeland, FL (Purchased Danisco Flavor Division) May 1999-April 2009

Director of Operations / Plant Manager

Responsibilities: Manage all functions of operation which primarily focuses on citrus & apple flavor manufacturing for beverage and fragrance applications with $225 MM annual sales. Manufacturing unit operations of plant include distillation, chromatography, extraction, compounding and emulsion technology. Site was purchased as part of the Danisco Flavor acquisition in July 2007.

Achievements: Integrated former Danisco site into the Firmenich culture. Implemented SAP as MRP system. Instituted a Process Safety Management program in adherence to OSHA 1910.119. Closed another Firmenich site in Safety Harbor, Florida and relocated Operations, Sales and Administration functions to Lakeland. Project sponsor of a team that managed a $15 MM investment upgrade of the Lakeland facility to support the relocation.

Danisco Flavors Inc., Lakeland, FL (Purchased by Firmenich) (May 2004 to July 2007)

Director of Operations / Plant Manager

Responsibilities: Manage all manufacturing functions of plant facility including; Purchasing, Logistics, Quality, Production, Engineering & Maintenance, Regulatory, and Product Services Group. Directly responsible for sourcing citrus raw materials globally. Site operates 24 hours, 7 days per week with annual sales of $90 MM. Facility also contains Flavor Creation, R&D, Sales, IT, and HR staff, which supports the operation of the site.

Achievements: Reduced operational expenditures by $3 MM through lean manufacturing program with increase in sales. Energy reduction program that decreased consumption of electricity and natural gas by >7.5%. Implemented AS-400 MRP in 2004, standardizing all processes. ISO 9001 Quality registration, AIB superior rating for 3 years running. Implemented Process Safety Management program and site maintained an excellent safety record.

Director of Global Process Technology (Promoted) (February 2002 to May 2004)

Responsibilities: Responsible for standardizing, improving and/or automating processes for all 12 of the Flavor sites worldwide. Created process specific specialty teams with other Danisco divisions where we utilized best practices and six-sigma / lean methodology to gain efficiencies in unit operations. Responsible for capital budget of up to $100 MM annually.

Achievements: Standardized and consolidated operational processes over all divisional sites while reducing head count and unit operations. Member of divisional team for acquisitions and site closures focusing on unit operation movement and redistribution of equipment throughout other sites. Achieved savings of over $105 MM in 2 years.

Maintenance & Engineering Manager (Promoted) (May 1999 to May 2004)

Responsibilities: Direct management of Maintenance and Engineering staff supporting the other operational functions at Lakeland site. Overall responsibility of process design and optimization specializing in distillation, compounding, and liquid extraction processes. The design and project management of capital improvement projects up to $10 MM annually for the Florida site.

Achievements: Development and construction of $3.4 MM automated blending facility that is state of the art for the industry. Designed new vacuum technology that saves over 5.6 million gallons of process water per year with an increase in molecular efficiency (payback 3 mos. w/ ROI of 140%). Increased the efficiency of many processes that decreased operational costs and increased product yield.
