Steven Proksa Cover Letter

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am a litigation paralegal with over 12 years’ solid experience working for small (Krislov & Associates 5 years) and medium (Weinberg Richmond, LLP 7 years) law firms in Chicago. My duties have included answering discovery, issuing subpoenas, compiling exhibits for depositions and trials, legal research using Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis, the scheduling of depositions, the filing of pleadings with local courts, file management, document review, the abstracting of deposition and trial testimony, the compilation of financial records databases using Microsoft Excel, and the reading of expert medical testimony in court in front of a jury in an insurance defense case.

In addition to performing almost every aspect of litigation duties during my career, I am a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois since 2003 and I have attended residential and commercial real estate closings while at Weinberg Richmond, LLP. During my almost three years at Wheeler Financial, Inc. I was the Assistant to the President and I complied leases and contracts for residential and commercial properties acquired through tax sales. I was able to utilize my paralegal experience by acquiring needed documents from the City of Chicago, Cook County, and the Daley Center. I performed property management duties for residential properties such as monitoring evictions, contacting various utilities to start or stop service, the hiring of contractors to fix broken appliances or replace them, and resolved property management issues with tenants.

In addition to being a licensed real estate broker, I passed the state of Illinois Insurance examination in 2004 and was licensed to sell insurance products. With the exception of my employment at Michael Best & Fredrich, LLP in 2007, all of my positions ended due to a lack of work or the dissolvement of the firm and not to poor job performance. I have worked at Insurance defense firm Cassiday Schade, LLP which does toxic tort cases including asbestos, had an assignment with the United States Department of Justice which involved highly sensitive information in a national price fixing matter, and worked in the corporate law office of USG Corporation assisting them with their asbestos litigation.

I can provide you with excellent references who can attest to my character and work habits and can meet personally with you at your convenience to discuss your needs and my qualifications. I have also passed extensive background and drug test checks performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation though out my career to be able to work at the above-mentioned organizations. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Steven J. Proksa
