Worked on DB2 tables with Triggers Cleanup project. The UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE database operations on the tables with triggers have been impacted by producing a negative -723 SQL code whenever an invalid hexadecimal character was detected in the CHAR or VARCHAR XMLELEMENT data type defined column causing processes to ABEND. Created a software package comprised of JCL, COBOL/DB2, SPUFI programs and scripts to replace invalid hexadecimal characters with spaces to resolve the issue. Modified existing and created new batch and backend COBOL/CICS/DB2 modules and DB2 stored procedures supplementing existing code with exit routines that allowed handling of invalid entries.

Utilized by most business and technology application groups throughout UPS, these modules also provided functionalities such as tracking numbers validation, type of service determination including implementation of new services, package tracking and activity information updates, origin and destination service guarantee profile information and many more.

Created and implemented a new DB2 Stored Procedure to store and maintain new web tracking statuses for small packages, freight delivery exception statuses, package clearing and delivery statuses, etc. to be accessed and processed by Customer Automation-Internet System and UPS Tracking applications in the distributed web environment.

The software was designed, developed, implemented with production releases scheduled in phases and maintained using latest mainframe and web technology software such as DB2 UDB for z-OS/V9, CICS V3.2, COBOL Z/OS/ILE, CWS and other IBM, CA and CompuWare systems application development and testing tools.

Implemented common backend routine used to restrict data to be partially viewable depending on the user’s USA entitlement security level, i.e. data viewable exclusively by either a particular branch, or selected branches, or a particular FA, or group of FA’s.

Coordinated all development, development’s unit and integration testing as well as UAT (User Integration Test) and QA testing between COBI and Document Generation Group. Smoothly launched first pilot production implementation block for 2 USA branches.

Created MVS software to identify asset type such as shares, cash, fractional shares, Cash In Lieu and to prepare transfer files to book Transactions on the conversion dates to the Bookkeeping and General Ledger Journals. Conducted several volume tests using the test files supplied by the vendors to insure data integrity and consistency. Commenced the process and maintained close watch on the date(s) of the conversion to provide smooth transition and technical support for the process. Reviewed the transferred data and ‘totals’ results after the jobs had successfully run.

Worked on the Branch Symbol Numeric (BSN) conversion project that was implemented to convert a currently two byte character PaineWebber (PW) Branch Symbol having an alphabetic value in first position and alphanumeric in the second.

BSN (or Wire Code) is a basic building block embedded in other key data items such as Broker ID, Client Account Number, G/L Account Number, etc., which limited the number of potential retail offices and correspondent client firms of many PW business systems.

Redesigned COBOL II (both batch and online) source programs, JCL utility programs control cards and JCL procedures for HISTORICAL STOCK RECORD – HSR – PW acronym (a part of the PW Corporate Actions business application) to enable expansion of the existing BSN value to a three (3) byte long character. Introduced a new HSR branch symbol beginning with numeric values in the field’s second position and reserved blank first position for future uses. Set up and ran JCL job streams to ‘condition’ the input files, and coordinated a MOCK (parallel) unit and system tests to ensure a correct data sequence in the output files. Performed an online manual PRODUCTION/MOCK data ‘spot’ checking after the DB2 tables have been updated in batch cycle.
