Directed all capital, raw material and packaging component procurement for a new $250M paint manufacturing plant in NE England

Negotiated all new raw material and packaging component supplier agreements ($200M) to meet the new plant’s supply requirements - Kanban ordering process, telemetry, EDI, advance ship notification, no-waste supply, consignment stocking programs, and maximum two day lead times – with no increase in direct costs.

Worked with suppliers to implement Lean Six Sigma processes in their operations to enable them to meet the new requirements.

Procurement Director – North America – Strongsville, OH 2010-2011

Directed the procurement organization of 20 people in the US and Canada, reporting to the CEO’s in U.S. and Canada. Responsible for all raw materials, packaging and indirect spend for the Decorative Paints business in US, Canada and Puerto Rico, with total sales of $1.8B. Raw material / packaging spend of $650M and indirect spend of $350M.

Worked with the Leadership Teams in the U.S. and Canada to understand what they needed from Procurement, then successfully transformed the Procurement Department to improve effectiveness in category management, and increase the professionalism and engagement of the team.

Established raw material pricing forecasts that enabled the business lines to proactively calculate the projected impact of raw material and packaging cost increases in their product formulations. Met with the GM’s monthly to develop pricing strategies that resulted in successful implementation of $50M in price increases.

Reduced raw material and indirect material inventories by $10M (30%) by improving production planning through integration of customer sales data.

Developed and executed a risk mitigation strategy that eliminated sole sourcing constraints on raw materials that went into more than $100M of products.

Managed the Monthly Supply Plan, with 18 month rolling forecast, for the Integrated Business Planning Process

Procurement Director, Direct Materials – North America – Strongsville, OH 2008-2010

Responsible for all raw materials and packaging component spend for the Decorative Paints business in US and Canada and Puerto Rico (spend of $650M) with 10 direct reports.

Managed supplier contracts for all raw materials and packaging components and successfully leveraged the supply contracts across NA, saving $5 million in COGS. Spend categories included TiO2, latex, resins, solvents, pigments, additives, extenders, monomers, plasticizers and packaging components.

Developed and executed alternate sourcing strategy to substitute ethylene-based for propylene-based latex materials on $200M annual spend with $10M dollar cost savings and increased security of supply.

Implemented replacement of steel paint cans with plastic, resulting in $5+ million savings and increased customer acceptance

Developed and implemented strategy to secure critical supply of titanium dioxide and latex in a very tight supply situation

Implemented Supplier Quality Requirements (SQRM) process that ensured supplier compliance with material requirements through documentation and resolution of supply issues.
