PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ZIPP SPEED WEAPONRY, Division of SRAM Corp., Indianapolis, IN 2010 - 2016 Manufacturing Engineer/Team Manager
Utilized kaizen events, PFMEA, and lean manufacturing to introduce new products, processes, and manufacturing equipment in carbon composite bicycle wheel manufacturing facility. Employed DMAIC and 8D problem solving to reduce cost, minimize scrap, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
Created novel bladder fabrication process to facilitate introduction of Zipp’s first carbon clincher wheel. Used 3 factor, 3 level DOE to identify optimum bladder tool design which avoided 6 weeks of development time and $70,000 in tooling costs. Specified and procured production bladder press using key process parameters learned from pilot press.
Led SCADA implementation project to create part traceability from incoming materials to finished goods. Specified and procured SCADA integrated laser marking system to develop in-house, direct part marking capability and traceability.
Specified and procured three state-of-the-art, post-molding machining centers integrated with SCADA front end GUI/HMI. Eliminated worker set-up in all three machines improving part velocity in factory by facilitating one-piece flow over batch processing.
Led Pilot Process Kaizen using value stream mapping to identify process waste. Introduced Pilot Tier Accountability meeting resulting in significant improvement of pilot run execution.
Upgraded molding presses from finite-step recipe programming to multi-step, unlimited recipe programming capability, including complete SCADA data logging for all key process parameters.
Recognized for outstanding leadership with SRAM corporate Team Red Award. DELTA FAUCET CO., Division of Masco Corp., Carmel, IN 1996 - 2009 Advanced Manufacturing Engineer
Facilitated Kaizen events to implement lean manufacturing in high-throughput production environment. Performed project management to set up new manufacturing operations and to modify existing ones. Provided domestic and overseas multi-plant locations with manufacturing and process engineering support for PVD coating operations. James S. Lipe Page 2
Researched, analyzed, and presented energy savings in a green initiative Kaizen that identified $275,000 in potential savings.
Facilitated Kaizen event that reduced cycle time, capital equipment, and floor space requirements for new manufacturing operation.
Received patent for stainless steel PVD finish that resulted in superior color, performance, and chemical resistance and significantly increased sales.
Led PVD implementation projects by managing facility design and construction, equipment installation, and startup for four locations representing a $3-4MM investment for each facility.
Improved yields, productivity, and efficiency by training and mentoring technicians at multiple manufacturing sites.
DELCO ELECTRONICS CORPORATION, Kokomo, IN 1995 - 1996 Equipment Engineer – IC Delco Wafer Processing
Designed modifications for semiconductor processing equipment to increase capacity and yield. Evaluated new technologies and equipment. Defined specifications and acceptance testing procedures for new and used equipment procurement. TIMEX CORPORATION, Little Rock, AR 1989 - 1995
Chemical Engineer
Developed processes for deposition of thin films on watch components to meet new appearance and functional requirements. Initiated and implemented test programs and evaluations of existing processes to improve quality and yield. Designed equipment modifications and substrate fixtures. Supervised, trained, and supported PVD technical and manufacturing staff.
Earned award for designing novel cathode shutter and substrate fixtures resulting in 80% increase in PVD system capacity.
Developed proprietary process for deposition of multilayer thin film coating which yielded 150% improvement of product corrosion resistance.
Designed, tested, and implemented enhanced, precious metal sputtering target that provided 280% target utilization increase and $115,000 annual savings.
Managed research, installation, and start-up of new, aqueous cleaning system which eliminated CFC’s and provided $65,000 annual savings. EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
