PROJECT

HIGHLIGHTS

CAE Support at Caterpillar (June 2013 – Dec 2016)

Primary support contact person for FEA software issues across CAT organization including software technical support, development, problem resolution and support website maintenance for Creo Simulate, HyperMesh, Abaqus, ANSYS

Tech Support / Troubleshooting / Customer Service

Process Development

Structural Analysis/FEA

Utility to render Abaqus model (Sep 2015 – Oct 2015)

Utility called UniCell is developed in Python. It opens abaqus file (*.inp) and shows 3D view in GUI. User can define node sets and run the model directly from utility.

HyperMesh automation in TCL (Nov 2015 – March 2016)

- Utility called AutoContacts is developed in TCL. This is to automate the traditional non-linear bolt contacts modeling practice in HyperMesh. The utility will identify the region based on user input parameters and creates contact surfaces and pairs.

- Also, developed miscellaneous user utilities in HyperMesh for Quick Quality check, Model Checking, Property assignment etc.

Agriculture machine simulations for static and modal analysis (Aug 2011 – June 2012)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh, Optistruct, RADIOSS

Static linear-nonlinear and modal analysis of (US Customer) Agriculture machines like Baler and Harvester and its sub-assemblies like Feeder unit, Chassis, Doors etc. Static and Modal analysis of components and sub-assemblies in liner solver of Optistruct or Radios Bulk data format. Results preparation in HyperView.

Safety system Simulations: Airbags (June 2012)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh & LS-Dyna

Airbag simulations including folding, Rolling, morphing.

Optimization of Track Casting shape (Nov 2011)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh & OptiStruct

The shape of track casting is derived from arbitrary billet. The casting was loaded with jerk loads, side loads, turning loads etc. and analysed in OptiStruct. The shape was suggested based on element density plot of OptiStruct.

Impact analysis of side door (March 2011-April 2011)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh & ABAQUS

Baler machine side door was considered under free fall closing. Analysed the effect on lock assembly due to sudden impact.

Quasi static implicit non-linear analysis of cabin structure (Roll Over Protective Structure-ROPS) (June 2010-July 2010)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh & ABAQUS

The existing excavator cabin design was failed to pass the test as per ROPS standards. The task was to do ROPS FEA analysis on existing design to have test and FEA correlation. After that few iterations were done to improve the cabin structure to meet force and energy criteria as per European ROPS standards.

-Sequential loading analysis.

-Material and spring non-linearities were considered.

Design Optimization and weight reduction of Centrifugal Pump (March 2010 – June 2010)

CAE Environment: ANSYS WorkBench

Analysis on different models of centrifugal pump. Load cases considered were internal pressure, nozzle pressure. Modal analysis was also carried out. Contact nonlinearities were considered. Co-ordination with Design team for design improvements.

Implicit linear nonlinear simulations for structural strength, and weight optimizations. (Feb 2007 – Jan 2010)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh & ANSYS

Static linear-nonlinear analysis and Stress optimization of earth moving and agriculture machines, assemblies, industrial products for various customers.

The task was to carryout complete meshing and linear static analysis for different worst loading conditions as per client’s requirement. Displacements and principal stresses were studied-analyzed. Preparations of gauge location report for high stress points and then stress optimization for those points.

Structural strength analysis of Tractor, Harvester and Baler Components (2010-2012)

CAE Environment: HyperMesh, ABAQUS, Optistruct

Structural FEA projects on Tractor Axle, Frame, Fenders, Hoods, Exhaust support systems. Simulation project on Harvester-Baler Frames, Axles, Platforms, Plungers, Grain tank parts, Wheel Rims, and Axles for weight, strength and field failure investigation objectives.

Meshing in HyperMesh (2007 – 2012)

Complex Hex, Tet, Shell Meshing of machines and assemblies, pumps, tanks, auto-parts, engine parts, agricultural, heavy earth moving components, chassis, exteriors, axles.
