To Whom It May Concern:
I am very interested in teaching English in the Far East. I hold a United States Illinois certification, Type 09 English/Language Arts.
I have taught middle school and secondary English for fifteen years in USA, as well as teaching two years in China at the university level (ESL) where I was continually designing and refining lessons. I have, in the past, specialized in preparation for the ACT and PSAE college entrance exams. When ACT made public the results of a district’s scores for college-bound students, the average score for all juniors whom I taught (who accounted for all juniors in the district) was 23.9 (English section). As I taught all the junior level English classes, I was able to raise the PSAE scores in reading twenty points in two years. I also served as backup supervisor for all state testing in our high school for several years and participated annually on the School Improvement Committee for many years. The Illinois State Standards are always visible in my lessons.
However, I look forward most to traveling abroad and enjoying new cultures, new people, new landscapes, and new cuisine.
My greatest aim is to see students exceed in their education. As evidenced in my previous work, I can help students attain their full potential, as well as creating a teaching environment that allows them to enjoy the journey along the way.
I look forward to meeting with you and thank you for your time and consideration regarding this teaching position.
Sincerely,
Dean Lake
