Work History:
2013-2016: Hospice Director/Administrator, Brookdale Hospice, Colorado Springs, CO. Developed and directed the start up hospice business line for Brookdale Senior Living in Colorado Springs. Developed protocols, hired associates in all disciplines; responsible for overseeing all aspects of Operations and Finance. Successfully obtained State of Colorado licensure and CHAP certification. Built business line to current ADC of 35; grew from 2 to 29 associates within 3 year span. Served on several national committees to develop best practices further enhance end of life services to patients, families, and caregivers.
November 2007-May 2013: Director of Inpatient Services at Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, Colorado Springs, CO. Assisted in design of independently operating inpatient hospice floor within an acute care hospital, and was instrumental in moving the hospice unit into this location in July of 2011. Assumed supervision of the after hours team for over a year to provide support and initiate process improvement for care of patients overnight and on weekends. Extensive experience in staff development, education, and management. Responsible for budget preparation and management of inpatient and extended care teams. Extensive experience in chart audits to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
July 2007-November 2007: Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, Colorado Springs, CO. Hired as a float RN; after orientation, I spent 3 weeks working in the Inpatient Unit, transferring to Home Care as a case manager 9/4/07, responsible for coordinating the care and treatment of an average of 12-16 terminally ill patients residing in their homes. Working closely as part of the pt’s IDT, I was responsible for nursing assessments, problem solving, patient care planning, attending IDT meetings, updating care plans and computer entries; coordinating care between disciplines, and following orders from palliatists, as a liason between the physician and the patient. Worked closely with families and caregivers, providing support and equipping them to care for their loved one. Communicated effectively and often with various departments within the agency.
2005-2007: Sangre De Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care, Pueblo, CO. Responsible for the management and operations of a nine- bed inpatient facility that attended to the needs of the terminally ill patient and his family by providing aggressive pain and symptom management. Responsible for budget preparation and management; maintenance of records; chart audits; appropriate staffing and scheduling to meet needs of patient census and acuity; coordination of care between all disciplines of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team. Responsible for strategic and fiscal planning for the agency and specific departments.
2003-2005: Casemanager RN, Sangre De Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care, Canon City, CO. Responsible for the assessment, care, treatment, and follow up for a full caseload of terminally ill patients in their homes, according to physician’s orders and patient’s plan of care. Assessed patient’s medications and treatments for effectiveness, side effects and untoward reactions. Liason between the patient and the patient’s physician to coordinate optimal end of life care.
2001-2003: Dr. Marc Sindler, MD, Family Practice, Canon City, CO. Registered nurse coordinating the scheduling, check in, brief initial assessment of patients for busy family
practice office. Responsible for filing, scheduling of lab and other diagnostic testing in hospital; performed office lab testing; assisted with minor office surgery; sterilized equipment and instruments; immunized infants and children; kept accurate records of patient’s health care. Experience with ICD-9 coding.
1984-1992: Developmental Opportunities, Canon City, CO. Responsible for coordinating the healthcare of 42 severely/profoundly developmentally disabled adults. Reviewed their medical and medication regimes; coordinated their care with specialists to meet their health needs, and acted as liason between the client and their physician.
1982-1984: St. Thomas More Hospital, Canon City, CO. Worked as a staff RN in a small hospital, gaining skill in Peds/OB/Med-Surg/ICU/ER.
1982: St. Joseph Hospital, Florence, CO. Worked as a staff nurse in a very small rural hospital, gaining ER/Med-Surg/OB experience.
1981-1982: Hildebrand Care Center, Canon City, CO. 60+ bed SNF. Responsible for the supervision of the nursing staff on the evening shift, assuring quality care in the areas of meds, treatments, therapies, personal care. Developed care plans and facilitated patient staffings for the residents. Participated in employee evaluations, mediated disputes, assisted in employee performance plans.
1980: Claggett Memorial Hospital, Rifle, CO. Worked as a staff nurse in a 32 bed rural hospital in the height of the oil shale boom on the Western Slope. Gained experience in med-surg, OB, ICU, ER, Central Supply, Purchasing, sterilization of equipment, etc.
