PROJECT: 1:-

ANTIHYPERGLYCEMIC AND ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC EFFECT OF CYNODON DACTYLON (LINN) IN ALLOXAN INDUCED DIABETIC RATS.

SUMMARY:-

Diabetes is prevalent worldwide and is stated to be one of the important causes of death worldwide. Diabetes mellitus is basically a disease of a glucose metabolism resulting from dysfunction of pancreatic b cell and insulin resistance, but at least later stages of the diseases, lipid metabolism is also affected. Alloxan induced diabetes mellitus is an excellent experimental model to assess the antidiabetic effect of natural and synthetic agents. In the present study, we have observed an elevated blood sugar, increased in total cholesterol, phospholipids, TG, FFA, LDL, VLDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol in diabetic rats as compared to control animals. However, oral administration of cynodon dactyclon extract for 45 days to diabetic animals brought back all the above mentioned biochemical parameters in diabetic rats. The antihyperglycemic effect of cynodon dactylon is probably due to its antihyperglycemic principles or its stimulatory role on insulin secretion from remanant pancreatic β cells. The reduction of glycosylated Hb observed in cynodon dactylon treated diabetic rats are due to its preventive role of glycosylation of to Hb moiety. Thus, our results clearly indicate that cynodon dactylon has posent antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic effects in all Oxon induced diabetic rates and can therefore be used as alternative medicines for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and can also be recommended for treating the diabetic complications.

PHYSIOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND ANTIBACTERIAL METABOLITES FROM STREPTOMYCES SP..

SUMMARY:

Aerobic submerged fermentation was carried out for antibacterial metabolite in Streptomyces A and B using starch nitrate broth. The antibacterial metabolite was extracted and separated by using thin layer chromatography. The biological activity of antibacterial metabolite was tested again gram negative bacteria. Physicochemical characteristics of antibacterial metabolite were studied by qualitative biochemical test and I R spectrum, HPLC analysis.
