Experience

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS LITTLE ROCK, Little Rock, Arkansas August 2016-Present

Student Success Specialist

Although I enjoy this position and interacting with staff and students, it is not a role that will provide an enormous amount of challenge or fulfillment for me. It has served as a wonderful transitionary opportunity to assist in my becoming settled in Arkansas.

My daily responsibilities include providing academic advising, assistance with registration, transfer information, placement information, student activities, and recruiting. I am also developing an early alert system for academically at risk students and serve as a liaison to campus departments and faculty.

Independent Contractor/Short term positions, Phoenix, Arizona May 2015-July 2016

Personal Assistant • Staffing Coordinator • Records Clerk • Substitute Teacher

• Court Mediator • Crisis Therapist

SWIFT LOGISTICS, Phoenix, Arizona

Process Improvement Trainer Nov 2014-Feb 2015

Recruiter Feb 2014-Nov 2014

I began at Swift as a temporary corporate recruiter when I returned from Oregon, just to make ends meet. I enjoyed the work, as it was something I hadn’t done before. After 2 weeks, I was offered a permanent, full-time position as a recruiter, serving primarily the Logistics department. I continued in this position, screening and interviewing applicants, conducting new hire orientation and attending job fairs, for the next few months until a new position opened in the logistics department, which I thought I would find more challenging. As the Process Improvement Trainer in the Logistics department, I was responsible for developing comprehensive training programs, Standard Operating Procedures, and rewards and continued to help with hiring when I could.

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY, Tempe, Arizona

Faculty Associate Aug 2008 – Aug 2010

As a faculty associate, I taught both first year students, as well as those that were mandated to take a development course, based on academic basis. I was able to reach many struggling students during this opportunity and help shape their college future successfully. Additionally, I co-developed a seminar for current staff to aid them in improving their presence in the classroom. This seminar covered topics such as learning styles, pedagogy, dynamic presentations and more.

Coordinator for Residential Academic Programs Jan 2008 – May 2010

Assistant Coordinator for Residential Academic Programs Jan 2008-May 2008

I held a few different positions while at ASU, some of which overlapped. I began as a part time assistant coordinator, working with the FYRE (First Year Residential Experience) program. In this position, I developed and delivered programs to first year college students to help increase retention rates. After one semester, I was given the opportunity to move into a full time position in the learning and development department. My role was similar, except the population I worked with was student leaders. I trained them and delivered programs to educate them on a variety of subjects to include, study skills, mentoring, personal development, diversity, self-awareness, stress management, motivation, and alcohol and drug awareness. Additionally, I was responsible for conducting the hiring process for our student staff, to include resume review, interviews and training. I also supervised 2 graduate student interns, as well.

UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX, Online/Virtual Classroom Oct 2008-May 2014

Cultural Diversity Instructor

While with The University of Phoenix, I facilitated a cultural diversity course in an online classroom. I always enjoy teaching and facilitation and this experience was no different. However, after working in the same course for nearly 6 years, I was ready to move on.

ANTHEM COLLEGE ONLINE, Phoenix, Arizona April 2012-March 2013

Program Chair, Criminal Justice/Paralegal

Instructor

The position at Anthem was a great one for me. I was able to combine my love for working with students and the criminal justice system. I was able to conduct the hiring process from beginning to end for faculty members within the program. While supervising dozens of faculty members, I also managed the learning management system and instructional design for courses concerning both the subjects of criminal justice, as well as paralegal studies.

I was also able to teach during my time in this position, as well. I taught both a personal development course and victim advocacy courses. While I was there, Anthem was going through a lot of changes and was subsequently sold to a company based out of Florida and the environment was less than stable, which is why I left. The online division has since gone out of business.

Community Service

PHOENIX FIRE DEPARTMENT

Crisis Response March 2010-Dec 2011

This was an amazing opportunity and one I which to replicate once I am relocated. As a volunteer, I completed 12 hours shifts, working from either an active or retired firehouse, depending on location. We would be called out by siren to assist on calls where there were victims present or crisis intervention was needed and police and fire were already on scene. We basically picked up where fire and police left off, sometimes speaking with clients on scene and sometimes escorting them to the hospital, depending on the situation. Most of our calls dealt with codes and those that were left behind. We offered on scene support, as well as materials on community resources. We often waited for the coroner to arrive on scene to make determinations. Of course, with this type of position, there was much paperwork required. At times, I would serve in the office on an administrative capacity entering notes, etc…

One of the most fortunate opportunities I had in this position was the ability to meet with other responders in a counseling capacity. I was able to work with them, upon their request, regarding compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, as well their own personal issues.

SERENITY HOSPICE Nov 2009-April 2011

Hospice Bereavement Support Volunteer

In this position I worked with clients who had a family member in hospice care or who had recently passed. I followed up with them and did welfare check calls on a regular basis, to ensure that their needs were being met. I also created marketing materials for the bereavement therapy group that was being developed.
