Dissertation: An indirect spectrophotometric method for the determination of chromium by diazo coupling reaction.

A method has been proposed using NEDA as a coupling reagent for the determination of trace amounts of chromium in various matrics. The developed method is facile, rapid, sensitive. The red colored species obtained give an absorbed max at 550 nm . The system obeys beer's law at 0.2- 1.8 μg/ml of Cr (VI) in the final vol of 10 ml. The molar absorptivity is 2.44 10^4 L/mol/ cm. Sandell's sensitivity and detection limit is 0.00210 μg/cm -2, 0.01 μg/ml respectively Cr (III) can be detemined after oxidation of Cr (VI) with Br H2O in alk medium. The method was used for the determination of chromium in alloy steels, industrial effluents and pharmaceutical preparations.
