I have led teams as a supervisor and as Master Black Belt/Black belt. Relevant Experience

December 2014 - May 2016

Operations – United States Steel Corporation Position: Master Black Belt.

• Drove a corporate wide project to increase the process health of manufacturing by leading a team of upper level managers through the DMAIC process to develop and create the Carnegie Way Manufacturing System, which will provide seamless metrics reporting, support Visual Factory and implement a culture of metrics driven performance.

• Led an effort to increase the morale of the workforce by introducing to management and implementing the ideas board generation process to improve employee engagement and provide transparency on the shop floor.

• Taught several classes at all the three levels of the Carnegie way/6 sigma methods to include; CW 101, a two day introductory class taught to all personnel, CW 201, taught to all managers and 301 taught to senior level managers and high performing management staff.

• Provided insight to the current status and attitudes of Carnegie Way Method/t6 Sigma by leading a plant wide survey of all personnel. This included collecting, analyzing and presenting the results to plant management. This task was replicated to a corporate wide survey which I analyzed and presented to upper management.

• Mentoring over 400 projects in the areas of Iron Making, Steel Making, Finishing/Coating for Granite City Works. These projects focused on variation reduction, increase customer satisfaction and to improve sales. The result delivered 55M in savings.

• Introduced the concept of Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) projects to the management teams in the fall of 2015. This resulted in 7 SMED projects that resulted in a changeover time reduction.

October 2011 - October 2014

Global Purchasing, Caterpillar, Inc. Position: Master Black Belt

• Led the development and implementation of a supply base strategy to realign the Advanced Component Systems Division. This effort is to include identification of gaps thru analysis, identifying targets and metrics and defining the opportunity delivering over 750 M in value proposition in 2012.

• Managed an 11.1 M (USD) budget for Operation GROW which included of normal day to day operation as well as trough planning contingencies.

• Led several efforts to improve critical suppliers who were incapable of performing to Caterpillar standards for quality and delivery performance. This effort resulted in providing quality components to the Joliet facility and shipping over 40 Large Mining Trucks to the end customer on time.

June 2010 - October 2011

Technical Center Caterpillar, Inc. Position: Engineering Manager

• Supervised a team of APQP professionals to be utilized as trainers and coached to the supply base at Caterpillar. This included both contract personnel as well as long term Caterpillar employees.

• Traveled overseas and in the US to lead several teams in the execution of the Advanced Product Quality Planned (APQP) methods for critical supplier supporting the Tier 4A programs.

• Led several critical suppliers through the APQP activities to include boundary diagram/interface analysis as well as DFMEA and the identification of special characteristics that were critical to the design functions.

April 2009 - June 2010

Operations - Decatur, IL Caterpillar, Inc. Position: Master Black Belt

• Led an effort to redefine and establish a Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility process. This included establishing the ‘to be process’, defining roles and responsibilities and gaining resources.

• Led 9 Black belts thru over 60 projects in areas of lean, inventory reduction using Value Stream Mapping (VST), OEE, takt time/cycle time bar charts and many other lean concepts.

March 2006- April 2009

Motor Grader Design – Decatur Caterpillar, Inc. Position: Master Black Belt

• Led a team of Black Belt in the Motor Grader product group in both New Product Introduction (NPI) Black Belts (17) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) Black belts (4) in the areas of both DMAIC and DMEDI Methodology until Jan 2009.

• Led and mentored several TAGUCHI and DOE experiments in the area of robust engineering in the search of significant factors that affect both variation and target for continuous outputs.

• Worked with a team of sponsors to understand vision and opportunities within the organization through portfolio management and reviewing portfolio metrics on a quarterly basis.

• Delivered over 18 Million in value proposition in 2008 for the Motor Grader team while increasing the process execution metric form 2.9 to a 3.7.

• Led the New Product Introduction (NPI) process by working with the corporate NPI team and the local NPI team leads, which included guidance for customer requirements, adherence to the corporate process and administration of the scorecards for the Motor Grader programs.

• Caterpillar Certified Master Black Belt February 2008.

March 2002-March 2006

Operations – Decatur Caterpillar, Inc. Position: Black Belt

• Served as a Black Belt in the Motor Grater operations leading projects utilizing the DMAIC methodology by completing voice of the customer, root cause analysis, brainstorming solutions, piloting solutions and documenting control plans.

• Worked with maintenance to develop reliability plans based on Mea time to failure and mean time to repair on critical equipment and machinery as part of the TPM program.

• Trained in lean methodologies by the TBM consulting group and lead several break through KAIZEN events to eliminate the 7 forms of waste form the shop floor operations.

• Served as a Black Belt in the supply chain planning group, which involved traveling to several supplier of Caterpillar to increase the availability of parts through the value chain. The teams used lean techniques; pull trigger strategies, value stream mapping and value stream transformations.

• Caterpillar certified Black Belt March 2003.

May 1997 – March 2000

Facilities Engineering/Supervision Position: Facilities Engineer

• Provided mechanical, electrical and structural engineering support to the for both ongoing and new products by designing and supervising the build of lifting devices, support systems and transportation devices using AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, Pro Mechanica and hand calculations.

• Designed and oversaw the installation of a truck dock for the Decatur facility that entailed compliance with industry and OSHA standards as well as scheduling and budgeting constraints.

• Supervised a team of UAW hourly employees (40) in heavy fabrications for Moldboard, Drawbar and Circle components for the Motor Grader product.

• Supervised several mechanical and construction teams to implement improvements throughout the plant.

Strengths

• Can work effectively in an organizations and at all levels of management to bring transparency and sustainable change to an organization.

• Strong working knowledge of many aspects of manufacturing to include GMAW weld processes, CNC machining practices and OSHA requirements for manufacturing.

• Proficient in analyzing data by applying statistical tools such as ANOVA, Pareto Analysis, Design of Experiments and Taguchi experiments.

• Expert with the Failure Mode Effects Analysis/control plans for manufacturing.

• Strong oral and written communication skills combined with the ability to use fact base data driven information to make recommendations at any level of management.
