As a volunteer, court appointed, special advocate for children, I am appointed by a judge to
investigate a particular "case"; I have had to utilize both special training, and personal
communication skills to discuss sensitive situation with families.
This job involves looking for particular behavior signs that may indicate abuse; be it, verbal or
physical; often times using pointed questions for family and children to draw out truths.
Communication and documentation are immensely important in this job, because the outcome of
my investigation could have a negative or positive effect on the entire family structure; and my
main goal is to protect children that are afraid to speak up, or are unable to advocate for
themselves.
Then I need to communicate my findings in a courthouse before a Judge.
