Little Feet Meet April 2016

As a requirement for ODU’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Studies Program I have participated in the fifth annual Little Feet Meet for Children with Disabilities Approximately 300 children from 12 Norfolk public elementary schools visited Old Dominion's Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium Tuesday, April 22, 2016. This event was held for children with multiple disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome and Asperger's syndrome. It featured a variety of Olympic events. My responsibilities during the event was to assist all the children in playing in all the activities that included everything from obstacle courses, races, a football toss and bowling.

Lion’s Diabetes Camp

The Lions Diabetes camp required volunteers to stay for a weekend at the Triple R Ranch in Chesapeake, Virginia. This special retreat is for young people with diabetes, who are between the ages of 6 and 18 and their families (including parents, siblings and/or grandparents). I was responsible for gathering all materials for your activities, as well as knowing how to facilitate all variation. Also I was responsible for making sure all needed resources were packed.

Black Currency Day April 6 2016

Participated and mentored a small group of fifth grade students from Jacox Elementary school in Norfolk, VA to celebrate prominent Black Americans alive today, and to draw attention to racial issues and inequities which affect Black Americans’ interactions and participation in society. Designed activities, poetry readings, and art projects for them to participate in.
