TENNESSEE ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL, Chattanooga, TN

Southeast Regional Director
Responsible for raising funds and memberships in Southeast TN to go toward connecting Inner-City children with their natural environment through Summer Programs at Alton Park Development Corporation. Responsible for raising funds in Southeast TN to transport approximately 10,000 native trees to five counties, connecting volunteers and community leaders by restoring banks in watersheds. Planned TN Sustainability Symposium in Chattanooga, attracting around 50 people from the State to discuss best sustainability practices for TN. Responsible for cultivating relationships with Major Donors, including individuals and Foundations. Planned and executed several Major Donor and Volunteer events.
CHATTANOOGA ARBORETUM AND NATURE CENTER, Chattanooga, TN June 2005 – March 2013
Director of Development and Marketing
Accountable for the development and success of all fundraising efforts: the annual fund, major donor events and cultivation, special events, grant writing, and membership drives. Included budget responsibilities for 85% of the entire budget. Directed all marketing and public relations, building strong media contacts in radio, TV, and print.
Recruited tourists to the property through the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau. Represented the Nature Center at community land conservation meetings and non-profit Rotary meetings.
Key Accomplishments:
Director of Development and Marketing while two non-profits reorganized.
Project Manager for Paddler’s Perch, a $250,000 project funded by the Lyndhurst Foundation. Worked as the bridge between the funder, architects and contractor.
Secured several grants that allowed for the construction of a new Red Wolf enclosure, a new company vehicle, new bathrooms in the Visitor Center, new canoe storage building, playground area and 10 outfitted new canoes.
Secured funding for creation of Hidden Creatures of the Forest in the Visitor Center, housing numerous small enclosures.
Tripled income from Festival of the Jack O’Lanterns.
Established an annual fund committee with specific, measurable goals.
Successfully recruited and trained large numbers of volunteers and interns that significantly extended the organization’s abilities to achieve development and marketing goals.
Continually secured and cultivated major donors.
MAKE-A-WISH, Chattanooga, TN June 2004 – June 2005

Served as Special Event Coordinator for Chattanooga, Knoxville and Tri-State area. Worked closely with approximately 15 national sponsorships, such as Brooks Brothers and Casual Corner.
Visualized, created and launched numerous successful special events including the first Walk-a-thon (netted $35,000); Brewfest (netted $30,000); and Maytag Spring Swing (netted $20,000).
