HIGHLIGHTS OF EXPERIENCE
2005- 2016 Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Fairfax, Virginia
Language Access and Interpreter Program Coordinator; Provided oversight to the Volunteer Interpreter Program (VIP) in the delivery of interpreter and translation services to non-English speaking clients involved in the court system. Developed and implemented strategies for the maximum utilization of volunteer interpreter services in the agency. Work collaboratively with program managers to utilize interpretation/translation services to enhance the operation of probation/residential services. Coordinated with local government offices, such as Schools, Voter’s Registration Office, and Chamber of Commerce to provide volunteer interpreters for special events. Established policies and procedures for recruiting, screening, training, supervising, evaluating and recognizing volunteer contributions; monitored and evaluated the effectiveness of the program and made recommendations for improvement. Served as the agency’s representative in coordination with county-wide language access initiatives. Established and implemented agency policy and procedures for the use of paid language interpreter/sign language services; provided on-site quality assurance by assessing all interpreters’ service quality. Provided supervision for an administrative assistant and 45 volunteer interpreters.

FCPS Adult Education Instructor, Fundamentals of Interpretation 102 class includes overview of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, review definition of an interpreter, memory training and understanding language levels. Process of note taking and personal note taking styles, listening skills, self-assessment and strategies for improvement, cover different venues of interpretations. This class prepares a bilingual person to be a qualified interpreter and also prepares the individual to be better prepared for the State certification exam.
2002-2005 Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Louisville, Kentucky
Spanish Law Enforcement Instructor. Prepared specific lesson plans for each department of the Sheriff’s Office and Courthouse to include Spanish culture, basic Spanish, serving EPOs, subpoenas, arrest commands, danger words, citations, and 911 calls. I taught different state agencies with additional instructors from the Department of Criminal Justice Training.
Upon request of the Sheriff I served as interpreter, translator and transcriber for phone calls, taped interviews for agencies that included Internal Affairs for the Sheriff’s Office, FBI, DEA and other Kentucky law enforcement agencies. When available, I also worked in the Process Department uploading data of all civil papers which included summons, subpoenas, garnishments, EPOs, and all court orders that were served by the Sheriff’s Office.
2001-2002 Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Hammond, Louisiana
Tax Collector, Deputy Sheriff. Collected taxes, redeemed delinquent taxes, and contacted property owners prior to Sheriff’s auction sale. Other duties included help with offense and accident reports, fingerprinting, accepted citation fines, RORs, and restitution of IWCs, entered data on all reports, interpreted and translated for the Domestic Violence division in the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center, assisted deputies with interpretations and translations needed for Hispanic subjects or victims, helped with all the administrative work to ensure a great rapport between the public and the Sheriff’s Office.

Transcriptionist and Translator. Downloaded WAV files for Working Solutions Company to enter information on file. Translated and transcribed legal and medical files when project was completed they were uploaded to a website specified by the company. Due to the scope of the work, communication with the team leader was through e-mails, online supervision check once a week.
