EXPERIENCE
Badger Meter Brown Deer, WI – Manufacturing Systems Engineer July 2013 to December 2015
Badger Meter manufactures water meters and other flow technology solutions for utility and industrial applications.
Accomplishments
Automated administrative tasks to eliminate non-value added activities and the potential for human error in the order preparation process. This resulted in a head count reduction of two operators and was accomplished by training operators in the use of software that utilized barcode information to query SQL databases.
Gained new business by implementing serialization specific to individual customer requirements. Responsible for maintaining serialization of all water meters.
Increased sales by launching new products within aggressive deadlines. This was accomplished by working with quality, manufacturing, and test engineers to validate and document product requirements in a home-grown packaging system. Responsible for documenting test code for all products in a medium volume, high mix environment.
As corporate liaison, reduced lead time of orders and standardized business practices by transitioning recently acquired domestic and international manufacturing sites to Badger’s ERP, packaging, and testing systems.
Improved inventory traceability by modifying product shipping labels to contain barcode information using Zebra, Lua, and SQL programming languages. Modified labels to meet Customs and Customer Service requirements. Standardized shipping labels across international sites.
As ISO auditor, improved business processes by issuing CARs when non-conformances to standards were discovered. Improved internal auditing procedure and overall QMS by creating/improving existing standard operating procedures.
Increased uptime of production lines by fixing root cause of glitches in systems. Served as primary point of contact when orders were stalled due to systems issues.
Reduced lead time of orders by improving and maintaining overall routing maintenance procedures.
Improved inventory accuracy by troubleshooting BOM issues with Design Engineering.
Harley-Davidson Menomonee Falls, WI –Industrial Engineer, Sr. August 2011 to July 2013
Harley-Davidson’s Powertrain Operations facility paints, machines, and assembles nearly all motors for H-D.
Accomplishments
Decreased staffing requirements by building and maintaining accurate capacity model for over 1,500 machining assets. This model was used to determine labor requirements for the plant under a new labor contract allowing seasonal temporary labor. Used this model monthly with top management to analyze various sales scenarios. This model, combined with forecasts, determined whether purchasing new equipment was justified and was used to solve capacity problems.
Reduced labor by automating tasks involved in scheduling, inventory control, and determining optimal line rates by writing programs/macros in python & VBA for management and shop floor personnel.
Served as administrator for various labor standards, quality documentation, and safety databases which included troubleshooting user problems, implementing changes, training end users, and maintaining accuracy of content.
Improved safety metrics by serving as liaison between corporate and local personnel concerning changes to Safety policies.
Provided safety metrics databases to plant operations.
Reduced inventory of low-volume parts on Assembly Line by developing and implementing Kanban system.
Waukesha Electric Systems Waukesha, WI - Industrial Engineer August 2006 to August 2011
Waukesha Electric Systems manufactures medium-sized transformers for the power industry.
Accomplishments
Saved approximately 1300 hours per year of engineering labor by automating approximately 95% of routing review process through programming.
Increased uptime of various work cells by implementing 5S practices. Led the first 5S event at the facility.
Converted routings from home grown ERP system to SAP. Expanded / managed database of 1000+ FORTRAN and ABAP codes used to route parts and schedule production.
Converted waste streams into revenue streams by working with vendors to manage waste streams. Purchased press to recycle plastic and trained operators use. Worked with maintenance and outside vendors to recycle heat from generators, significantly reducing energy costs.
Performed capacity and lead time analysis for the plant. Determined and published Operation performance metrics and explained variances to management/shop floor.
Key player in a variety of projects (Kaizen Events) to reduce scrap, labor hours, and cycle times.
Improved business processes through actions as an ISO auditor.
Siegel-Robert Automotive Farmington, MO Industrial Engineer January 2005 to August 2006
Siegel-Robert manufactures plastic injection molded and chrome-plated nameplates for the automotive industry.
Accomplishments
Helped develop new ERP system by establishing routings, bills of materials, labor requirement, capacity, and optimum run sizes for all products. This included performing time studies and establishing production rates.
Performed profitability analysis for individual products and plant as a whole. Worked with cost accounting personnel to verify data, establish overhead rates, and explain cost variances.
Key player in a variety of projects (Kaizen Events) to reduce scrap, labor hours, and cycle times.
Increased sales by launching new products as point-of-contact for “Big 3” customers in satisfying run-at-rate requirements.
Intermet Corp Racine, WI - Industrial Engineer June 2003 to January 2005 (& summer 2002 internship)
Intermet manufactures die-cast and machined aluminum automotive components.
Accomplishments
Designed/updated operator manuals for both existing and launching parts produced on the shop floor. Implemented new corporate ISO compliant system of controlling documents.
Designed/implemented quality checks for several automotive CNC produced parts from print. Documented processes in APQP format. Implemented APQP software MPACT.
Established production rates for all jobs on shop floor. Worked with tooling engineering to significantly reduce CNC machine cycle time in several parts. Investigated lost cycle time through examining G-code.
Reduced product cost by eliminating third party inspections. This was accomplished by implementing poke-yoke carts, optical sensors, and training operators in start/end of shift quality checks. Worked with vendors to develop and purchase custom equipment related to these tasks.
Key player in launching several new products, satisfying requirements of the “Big Three” automotive customers.
