Chief Productivity Consultant - Owned and operated a full-service consulting firm that delivered the experience and expertise of a large management consulting firm at much lower costs. His consulting services were built for the kind of cost-effective, long-term, and responsive assistance that small businesses need from a management consulting firm in today’s economy. Primary focus was to facilitate a company’s transition from a ISO9000 Quality system to a AS9100C.

June,2005-March 2013: The Boeing Company

As senior quality manager, he was responsible for leading the development of a common process model that would be deployed across the McDonnell Corporation (62,000 personnel and 8 facilities). This assured commonality for how the company Acquired Business, Managed Production, Managed Engineering, Managed Production, Managed Suppliers and Managed Customer Satisfaction. Al also supported the company's quality council and led the development of the company's quality curriculum.

As Manager of Employee Involvement, he was responsible for leading and developing the concept for self directed work teams across the Boeing company. This affected 180,000 people and 37 Boeing facilities that were located internationally. These empowerment models fostered the innovation and improvement opportunities from Boeing employees across the enterprise.

As Manager of Labor Relations, he was responsible for working with management and labor unions to facilitate contract negotiations. Austin was also responsible to work with all start up Boeing companies in "right to work" states to assure Boeing strategic labor objectives were met.

As Boeing Small Business Liaison Officer, he was responsible for working with Boeing leaders to develop methods and strategies to assure US Government contracting goals for small businesses were being met. This included scouting out capable small businesses and communicating Boeing manufacturing and technology needs to the small business community. This assignment required significant contact with Boeing US Government customers, i.e., Army, Navy, Air Force. He was also responsible for Boeing's Mentor Protégé' program that created development plans for strategic small business and universities to assure their capability to become future Boeing subcontractors.

May, 2002- June, 2005: L-3 Communications

Austin was manager of Mission Assurance for two facilities--Anaheim, California and Renton, Washington. This was a third (3rd) level executive position responsible for Quality Control, Process Control, and Environmental Health and Safety. His team successfully transitioned the company's ISO9000 quality system to a certified AS 9100 quality system. The Environmental Health a Safety program became qualified for ISO 14001.

October, 1979- May, 2002: McDonnell Corporation/The Boeing Company:

As Manager of Production and Inventory Control, he was responsible for approximately four hundred (400) personnel responsible for shop loads, order tracking and inventory management. This was a third level management position. He also developed an organization responsible for Capacity Planning that developed forecast for impacts to shop and equipment loads.

As Manager for Supplier Quality, he was responsible for the on-time and quality delivery of fabricated parts that were being received by approximately eleven hundred (1100) suppliers. This involved site visits to provide consulting to improve delivery and quality performance through the deployment of Lean and Six Sigma principles.

As Manager for Operations, he was responsible for Material Requirements Planning (MRP) implementation, Business Resources Planning, Internal Transportation, Industrial Engineering and Master Scheduling.

As Manager for Tool Engineering and Fabrication, he was responsible for designing and fabricating tools required to support jet-aircraft manufacturing. This department had over five hundred (500) personnel, including tool engineers and tool makers.

As Deputy Plant Manager for McDonnell Douglas' Torrance Plant, he shared responsibility for all plant operations. At its height, this plant employed over four thousand (4,000) personnel. This was the largest fabrication facility west of the Mississippi River. Austin also had the responsibility for the divestiture of this facility and the offloading of 25,000 tools to over 400 vendors. This was accomplished over two (2) years and there were no assembly line shortages attributed to this activity. Al was also responsible for successfully reaching book value for the machinery and related equipment associated with the plant divestiture. Austin subsequently relocated to Columbus, Ohio and Tulsa, Oklahoma to effect plant divestitures at those locations.
