EXPERIENCE

June 2014 – May 2016: Senior Engineer (2 years)

McLaren Construction, 100 Kings Road, Brentwood, London, U.K.

Project: Belmont House Office Block Building, Uxbridge, London

Cut/carve of existing multi story office building in a busy town centre. Works include concrete reinforcement of existing structure, expanding the existing footprint of the building with a steel frame, piling works, suspended concrete slabs, etc.

Set up site QA systems. Inspection and Test Plans, Work Inspection sheets, etc.

Identified design issues in advance and liaise with Structural Engineers/Architects to resolve the issues.

Managed and trained graduate engineers.

Managed groundworks, structural steel, piling, demolition subcontractors.

Temporary Works Co-ordinator for the site.

Fire Marshall for site. Drafted emergency evacuation plans for site and managed fire drills a monthly basis.

Project: Phase 500 – Premier Inn Hotel and Segro Industrial Unit, Uxbridge, London

Construction of a Multi-Story Timber Frame Hotel for the Premier Inn Hotel Company and one Industrial Warehouse Unit for SEGRO.

Site Reconnaissance. Identified existing survey control points and set up additional control points/gridlines for subcontractors.

Checked through relevant specifications/tolerances and applied them to construction processes.

Surveyed stockpiles of materials (Type 1, 6F2, etc.) and calculated their volumes.

Surveyed existing site levels, compared them to design levels and calculated cut/fill quantities.

Managed groundworks package. Provided setting out for groundworks engineer, led progress meetings, monitored onsite progress against construction programmes, QA checks, etc.

Project: Segro Industrial Warehouses, Origin Park; Park Royal, London

Construction of three industrial warehouse (including office areas) units for a leading UK based industrial warehouse developer SEGRO.

Checked through relevant specifications/tolerances and applied them to construction processes

Identified design problems in advance and solved them with designers/architects

Completed as-built surveys using AutoCAD.

Surveyed stockpiles of materials (Type 1, 6F2 etc.) and calculated their volumes.

Completed pre/post pour concrete checks for service yard and internal warehouse slabs.

Supervised and communicated with subcontractors and issued instructions to work.

Trained and competent at writing and evaluating RAMS.

Mar 2012 – Jun 2014: Site Engineer (2 years 4 months)

Laing-O’Rourke, Bridge Place 1 & 2, Dartford, London, U.K.

Project: Multi Story Car Park, Terminal 2, Heathrow, London, U.K.,

Worked on the construction and civils side of a large scale Multi Story parking garage for the new Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport

Became a very competent setting out engineer comfortable with many forms of setting out equipment.

Carried out QA checks on all site activities including precast quality, pre/post our concrete checks, underground service installation.

Quantified and ordered all construction materials and ensured that they were delivered to site in time for construction to proceed smoothly.

Appointed Confined Space person for site.

Appointed underground service locator for site.

Trained and competent at writing and evaluating RAMS.

Identified and solved design issues with designers/architects.

Co-ordinated and organised site activities as to not interfere with busy airport environment. For example, night time work, evening work and weekend work

Aug 2011 – Jan 2012: Environmental Engineer (6 months)

MERC Consultants Ltd, Loughaunbeg, Galway, Ireland

Project: Irish Water Directive

Completed work for the Irish Department of the Environment in accordance with the Irish Water Directive

Used surveying equipment to estimate volumes of water in lakes around the country.

Took soil/sand samples around bays and lakes which were sent for analysis in laboratories to determine pollution levels and the effects on the maritime environment

Acquired a good understanding of the dangers of intertidal and coastal zones.

Jul 2010 – Oct 2010: Assistant Site Manager (4 months)

Castle Construction, Yonkers, New York, NY, U.S.A., (summer job)

Project: Applebee’s Restaurant, Executive Boulevard, Yonkers, NY

Construction Company that deals with Commercial, Retail, Residential and Hospitality construction projects.

Worked on the construction sites of two large restaurants assisting the management team.

Helped with site logistics. Delivery of materials, getting rid of waste bins, co-ordination of tradesmen.

Gained a good knowledge in the operation and methods of construction.

July 2009 - Sept 2009: Site Worker (3 months)

ECI Contracting, Queens, NY (summer job)

Project: Multi-Story Apartment Complex; Queens, New York

Large-Scale Construction Company dealing with residential and commercial construction projects.

Valuable experience of construction sites, working closely with skilled tradesmen.

Gained good knowledge in adhering to construction site safety measures as a lot of work was done at higher elevation.

SKILLS AND TRAINING

Management - McLaren Construction is primarily a management company. Role as an engineer overlapped with many management duties. Have also completed numerous management training courses including SMSTS (Site Managers Safety Training Scheme) 5-day course, ABC (Achieving Behavioural Change) 1-day training course, Accident Investigation 1-day course, and RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statement) Evaluation 1-day course.

Temporary Works - Developed good knowledge of Temporary Works (TW) through role as TW co-ordinator on previous projects. Also completed Laing O’Rourke TW for Engineers 3-day course, ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers) TW co-ordinator 1-day course and Citrus Scaffolding Awareness 1-day course

Ground Investigation Techniques - Completed a 3-day field course using Seismic, GPR and resistivity ground investigation techniques.

Confined Spaces - Completed two training courses (Confined Spaces – Escape Breathing Apparatus and Full Breathing Apparatus, and British Airport Authority Appointed Persons courses.

CAD packages - Competent in AutoCAD design programme and associated programmes (Nova Point, CADS Analysis).

Other software packages - Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, MODFLOW, Geoslope, Trimble Heaving Duty Business Centre.

Digital Engineering - Completed 1-day training course for Navisworks programme.

IIF 4 Training - Incident and Injury Free programme.

Crane Co-ordinator - Completed in-house crane co-ordinator training with McLaren; and very keen to implement training onsite.

Environmental Awareness - Taken on role as environmental co-ordinator for numerous projects. Duties included SWMP (Site Waste Management Plan), Noise/Air Monitoring, Waste Segregation etc.; Have completed Asbestos Awareness (Ukata) 1-day course and Environmental Awareness 1-day course; and Have MSc. in Environmental Engineering

Fire Marshall - Completed Fire Marshall 1-day training course

Underground Service Location - CAT and Genny Series Locators RD4000 Locator, and Level 3 Qualification in Utility Mapping and Surveying.
