Objective
Manufacturing Engineer position that leverages my experiences in operations and customer support, problem solving, project ownership, continuous improvement, and nearly 15-year knowledge in semiconductor capital equipment tools.
Professional Experience
Project Manager/Manufacturing Engineer Applied Precision Design 2/2016 to Present
Executing Client projects; obtaining cost savings quotes, materials procurement, sourcing and managing suppliers, analyzing BOM’s (Bill of Materials) for End of Life issues.
Implementing DFM (Design for Manufacturability), reliability, and serviceability, while addressing prototype and final builds, testing, and quality issues for Contract Manufacturing design projects.
Updating and finalizing SolidWorks models and drawings.
Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Process Engineer KLA-Tencor 10/2000 to 9/2015
Solved complex systems alignment, integration and calibration issues in production and in the field to minimize tool cycle time impact, increase productivity and drive corrective actions and preventative actions.
Specified, designed and ordered efficiency enhancing tooling/fixtures for improved manufacturability in production and in the field utilizing BKM (Best Known Methods).
Developed, validated readiness and transferred NPI precision prototype assemblies, systems and tooling from development to production, created BOM’s, setup work flow processes and created detailed work instructions and procedures.
Managed and audited local and overseas Commodity Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers to achieve corporate 90% yield rate focusing on quality, cost and on-time-delivery.
Eliminated a 2 year recurring issue of 80% non-conformances resulting in unneeded part swapping, and 8-hour recovery for optical runout issues by applying RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and CIP (Continuous Improvement Plans).
Improved optical objective manufacturability by optimizing production workstations via Lean Manufacturing, designing/improving manufacturing tooling and fixtures, documenting and releasing ISO outdated procedures from solid models and actual assembly builds, and retraining manufacturing technicians.
Designed division’s first prototype 3D-printed parts from concept to completion utilizing Creo Parametric/Pro-Engineer 3D CAD; created SAP Bill of Materials (BOM’s), ECO-released, quoted, and ordered parts for key customer; authored manufacturing and field upgrade procedure 3 months ahead of projected deadline.
Collaborated with Design Engineers to relocate 6-axis alignment for next-generation 450mm product and reduced alignment time from 3 to 1 hour for manufacturability and field service resulting in reduced cost utilizing DFM.
Led cross-functional team to transfer 2 product lines overseas before projected schedule by training manufacturing personnel, qualifying test fixtures, and setting up initial production lines.
Mentored Junior and New College Graduate Manufacturing Engineers.
Mechanical Process Engineer Western Digital 1997 to 1999
Launched Western Digital’s first 20GB Hard-Disk Drive Program HSA (Head Stack Assembly) for first time volume production at the Western Digital Malaysia facilities with 85% new product introduction yield rate.
Oversaw initial prototype HGA (Head Gimbal Assembly) characterization and HSA production builds and transferred new products into high-volume manufacturing.
Managed HSA projects to qualify local, overseas and related materials suppliers for volume production utilizing quality improvement via SPC/Six Sigma and First Article validation with a target yield rate of 80%.
Successfully worked within multiple project teams and suppliers on HSA designs and packaging, updated and ECO released drawings to achieve project milestones and program launch deadlines.
