Sr. Process Development Engineer

Develop/implement new processes and refine existing ones for optimal manufacturing productions and improving yields to ensure QA and cost reductions. Devise test methods to assess production processes while validating new processes and highlighting improvements. Design/execute multiple chemical projects including chemical, petrochemical, pharma, food and beverages, oil, and gas; Develop PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, equipment designs, and data sheets on equipment modifications to enable process changes for new development.

Key Project:

Esterification Condensation Process for Capryllic Esther C9, C10, C11 adipic ester; $6.5M Project Capital Costs

•Lab-scale experiments of esterification reactions; two reversible reactions carried out in a vacuum batch reactor.

•Reactions Data fitting (identify the Reaction Order, Reaction Constant, and the Activation Energy. Three reaction systems, MCT, DIDA, and TMP C9, were analyzed.

•Optimized and tuned the pilot plant unit. Scaled up calculations for the reaction (reactor) unit and condenser.

•Processed simulations using Aspen Plus and HYSYS. Mass/energy balance for the optimized process flow diagram.

•Studied processes development with aid of ASPEN, PI Historian.

Ambitech Engineering, Saint Louis, MO 4/2014 – 12/2014

Senior Process Engineer (Contract)

Supported project manager in projects planning, and developing/tracking project schedules. Completed lines, utilities, and cycles according to existing criteria. Conducted: hydraulic calculations for control valves; relief load and PSV calculations; equipment lists, and utility consumption preparations. Active participant in HAZOP meetings. Prepared utility distribution diagrams; finalized line lists. Worked with liquid phase reactors, pumps, compressors, vessels, filters, tower internals, several packages, and heat exchangers. Performed vendor data checking, TBA preparations, and implemented final data into relevant PIDs and other items as required.

Key Project:

•Designed a new line of detergent with more than 2000 CP, including PFDs, P&IDs, batch materials, heat balance batch reactors, plate frame heat exchangers, high viscosity pumps sizing/calculations, and walk-in-the-field activities.

•Designed an expansion utility natural gas pipeline including PFDs, P&ID, HYSYS simulations, hydraulic calculations, and line lists.

•Designed drain system for multiple chemical reactor units including PFDs, P&ID, pumps sizing, line list and specs; designed corrosive chemicals distillation columns including Aspen Simulations, condensers/re-boiler sizing, and line sizing including two-phase flow.

•Completed refinery PSVs sizing and hydraulics calculations (included multiple scenarios.)

Aspen Technology, Houston, TX 7/2012 – 3/2014

Senior Business Consultant- Engineering

Completed Aspen Engineering Suite Professional Simulations including HYSYS, Aspen Plus, EDR. Flare Net, fired heater, preheat optimization, and capital cost estimations. Managed/supervised three junior-level Process Engineers and coached them on software rollouts. Directed software evaluation support, business benefit case analyses, feasibility studies/proposals. Interacted with clients on sales, marketing, and technical presentations.

Key Project:

•Simulation modeling for big projects (refinery, rigorous Cryogenic Process Design (APCI & C3MR), Cryogenics, Gas Gathering facilities, chemical plant, and flare networking), for major oil/gas companies including Chevron, Shell, BHP, HESS, Carrera Gas, and Ascend Chemicals.

•Ammonia, Urea, Ammonium Nitrate Plant (Fertilizers Complex Plant). Integrated Historian data with HYSYS models using Aspen Online Modular for natural gas compressors.

•Fired heater design and simulations for preheat refining distillation columns for Chevron, Houston, TX.

•Optimized two reaction unit’s condensers down-time, and reduced the shutdown time at the Lubrizol Chemical Plant in Deer Park, Texas, by predicting the exact time to schedule steaming or cleaning for the heat exchanger when the exchanger tube is clogged by fouling deposits (dependent on linking historian data with EDR software.)
