Member of the technical systems group (NOC) collectively responsible for the architecture, implementation, documentation, operation and systems management of the University of Kentucky central campus, Medical Center sector, and fourteen community colleges of wide area data communications.
Manage the campus database for IP address administration for the campus bootp/DHCP and domain name servers consisting of seven Sun Sparc servers running the Solaris operating system.
Use application software NetID, followed by Network Registry, to issue, resolve and administer IP addressing.
Use client-server software package QIP to administer, resolve Domain Named Services.
Used Unix-Bind command line to force updates on the DNS, when it did not update automatically over night. This was supported by my lead.
These were replaced in 2010 by Infoblox for dhcp and dns assignment.
Program Cisco distribution level for the Wide Area Networking group.
Program access level switches for the different departments keeping in accordance with the campus standards developed by Network Engineering.
Using the Cisco CLI to perform searches for machine address codes
(physical addresses) of computers, printers and other devices on the Cisco switches and routers to find their respective ports in order to change the vlans, or to change the status of switch ports.
Using Humming Bird’s TGIF4, in conjunction with Visio application software to create or modify campus network maps.
In September 2012, using Solarwinds Orion, I populated Orion with 1/6th of the campus building Cisco switches and routers, n the process of converting from Cisco Works to Orion
Used Solorwinds Orion to monitor and manage the campus network.
I also assisted the lead with documentation of populating Cisco Unified Communications Systems Documentation with Cisco IP-Phones.
Perform wireless surveys for departments, then draw WAN netmaps that depict the placement of the wireless AP units.
Place maps on the departmental Web site. Assist Lead Systems Programmers with the web based network, documentation, tracking, and inventorying the campus data communication equipment such as routers, bridges, and Ethernet switches.
Replaced some wireless APs.
Use sniffer on problem areas to get snmp trap samples of network traffic for further troubleshooting.
Minor exposure to using the SNMP network management tools such as HP OpenView and Netscouts,Ngenius.
Some field work as necessary to assist in onsite network troubleshooting and problem resolution.
