Work Experience:

12/2014-Present Twin Disc Incorporated Product Service Engineer Daily Responsibilities: Communicate directly with distributors, OEMs and end users via e-mail or telephone to provide technical support for all marine and industrial transmissions, hydraulic power take-offs, Arneson surface drive propulsion systems, microprocessors used to control this equipment or any other product Twin Disc Supplies. SolidWorks part, assembly, installation or 3-D models are utilized along with test & assembly standards and case history during support; Issue return of material authorizations with or without credit via J.D. Edwards Oracle to perform failure analysis; Write, review and publish service and owner’s manuals for new or existing products. Project Responsibilities: Investigate re-occurring failures in a product or a specific application beyond distributor capabilities to determine if there is a quality, application, design flaw or operator error that is causing the failures. This generally requires up to 25% travel to locations worldwide. Suspect equipment is inspected to include but not limited to conversations with operators, visual inspection, transmission input and output alignment & deflection, sea trials or unit testing, disassembly and inspection of wear on mechanical components and functionality of electronic transmission control systems. Test equipment usually includes pressure, speed and temperature sensors converted to CAN BUS J1939 by a Danfoss module which connects to the transmission controller diagnostics output and recorded by CanCapture / ECOM software. Occasionally data loggers are installed permanently and information is gathered via Vector XL or Unican2 and analyzed through CANalyzer or Microsoft Excel. After obtaining on site information a report is generated with analysis of the failure and my recommendations for future steps; Product installation reviews on new applications in which multiple vehicles or vessels will be produced; Training distributors on functionality, troubleshooting and service of product lines. Each product line is generally a one week course and offered once annually.

Accomplishments:

The first implementation of a wireless data logging systems on a Twin Disc product. High failure rates on marine transmissions used to service offshore wind farms near England required the need to monitor conditions daily from the United States. This required the vessel to be instrumented with test equipment, the data logger to be programmed for channels and triggering conditions, a cellular service to be obtained, an FTP communication to be defined and a post processing program to be continuously run which converts the information into usable data. This allowed critical information to be captured which led to component updates and the production of a new bill of material which is now installed and being monitored. Development and implementation of Twin Disc online training program. Articulate Storyline was used to create a 10 hour interactive training class. This replaced the original week long introductory class which required the technicians present in the factory in Racine. It was developed to keep the user actively involved and tests the user after each module to ensure the information was understood.

05/2012-08/2013 Bergstrom Climate Control Systems Test Lab Technician / Intern Daily Responsibility: Design testing, create the testing apparatus and test subcomponents of HVAC systems as requested by product design engineers or director of test and development. Testing included but was not limited to thermal cycle testing, high amplitude life cycle testing (HALT & HASS) and vibration, burst pressure, static loading, airflow, calorimetry; Testing is in accordance with SAE specifications or Bergstrom in house specifications. Accomplishing these tasks requires the use of equipment including HP 34970A multiplexers, CSZ Halt and environmental chambers, various vibration tables, National Instruments and LabView, thermocouples, pressure transducers, train gauges, flow turbines Analog and digital timers, analog and digital counters, thermal cameras. Project Responsibilities: Water valves and pumps controlling heater flow required a great deal of attention and time. Each design required life cycle testing, water flow linearity testing, burst pressure testing and thermal cycling. A report was generated and given to the requesting engineer upon completion. Brush motor fans and connectors having high failure rates required testing in environmental chamber to simulate various temperature and humidity conditions. All tests were recorded using LabView which was programmed to monitor all conditions including the amperage draw from the motors. The test successfully recreated the failures seen in the field.

Accomplishments: Designed and implemented the use of a thermal expansion valve vibration test that recorded failure hours. This was accomplished by using a pressure switches to stop a counter once that valve failed and correlate this with the time at the vibration cycle. It successfully demonstrated the need to control installation for product reliability.

04/2010-10/2014 Veteran’s Sealcoat CO-Owner / Operator Daily Responsibilities: Sales, marketing and application of asphalt emulsion for residential and commercial tarmac 12/2004-12/2008 United States Marine Corps Field Radio Operator Daily Responsibilities: Operated and maintained long, mid, and short range radio systems in combat settings for IED initial response teams; Planned communication and evacuation procedures; Trained 400+ individuals on radio systems annually; Handling classified material.

Accomplishments: Achieved the rank of Sergeant in less than 4 years; Two Deployments to Iraq; Naval Achievement Medal for supporting explosive ordinance disposal team with radio communications on 147 missions in 7 months.
