Colorado Space Grant Consortium
Dear Madam or Sir,
I was excited to learn about the Colorado Space Grant Consortium Academic Coordinator position at University of Colorado. I consider CU to be one of the finest universities in the country with an astounding engineering and aerospace program, and I would be honored to belong to the family of this fine institution. I have witnessed firsthand CU’s collaboration with industry, and the dedication of the students to develop unique research projects, and it is thrilling to see the achievements of these programs.
I was grateful to receive a Virginia Space Grant while I was a graduate student at University of Virginia to spend a summer at the Goddard Space Flight Center. It was one of the best summers in my life when I got to work for a NASA scientist, learned about cutting edge technology, and shared time space enthusiasts, such as myself. I have loved space and engineering since I was a child of six years, and this love has expanded and carried me through the years. I have been involved with the NASA Academy Alumni Association for many years in a variety of duties including selecting students to attend some of NASA’s summer programs. Also, I have been a member of the evaluation committee for the Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund Travel Grants. My passion in giving back extends not just to college students already interested in science and aerospace, but to children in our schools. I volunteer at a local elementary school to help in areas of STEM, and once I organized a science morning with Dr. Starkey from the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences from CU and one of his students, now Dr. Luis Zea to present the Dream Chaser spacecraft to the students. This was a great success, and it is always delightful to see the faces of the students.
Currently, I am working as a consultant to help organizations evaluate their processes and increase their productivity using lean Six Sigma tools and Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, but leaping to this opportunity that is so close to my heart. I believe that dreams and education are what moves us forward as individuals and society.
I am very interested in the Colorado Space Grant Consortium Academic Coordinator position, and I know that I will excel at all the requirements of the job.
Please feel free to reach me with any questions that you might have.
