Managed project justification and in-plant design for plant Safeguarding Mitigation in the GO-1S olefins plant $7MM . This project work was done according to the current Shell Chemical capital project assurance plan. Duties included scouting and front end development for turnaround installation of 41 mitigation items identified by Berwanger.

Performed relief device design for Dow in Plaquemine, Hahnville (Union Carbide, Taft) and Grand Bayou, La.

Worked on the process pressure relief design team. Qualified in Dow Certified Non Reactive Pressure Relief Design. Evaluated various relief scenarios for polyethylene, glycol, vinyl, acrylics, olefins plants and offsite facilities relief valves. Sphere, tank and process vessel pressure relief design was documented for the existing systems.

Senior Process Engineer (1983–1990)

Process evaluation of operating parameters to identify potential energy saving and production improvement. Evaluated process through computer simulations to provide design material balance, energy savings, incremental production and safety and environmental benefits.

Supported operations by troubleshooting operational deficiencies and operator competency. Established training for operators.

Justified low pressure stripping column condenser and assisted DSM Stamicarbon with system design.

Justified urea evaporator carryover reduction using 1st effect bubble cap tray. Brinks mist eliminator superceded this installation.

Process refractometer installed in the low pressure recovery section to reduce synthesis byproduct accumulation.

Retrofitted liquid amine solvent and synthesis gas molecular sieve driers to save energy. Saved 2.5 MMBtu / Ton.

Economic analysis to replace two high pressure exchangers.

Helped justify process computer control using Fisher Provox for H/N ratio control, with purge gas reduction benefits.

Evaluated alternate CO2 removal solvents to MEA.

Justified and worked with Haldor Topsoe and Ammonia Casale and MW Kellogg to engineer radial flow converters.

Worked with molecular sieve supplier to install driers that allowed the synthesis loop to be repiped in the ammonia plants for compressor power savings.

Worked to justify new catalyst for the water gas shifters.

Evaluated the use of palladium getter gauzes in Nitric acid plants for platinum recovery.

Performed dry recycle studies for optimum oversize urea crusher settings.

Supervisor- Urea Plant (1981–1982)

Observed operations, recommended maintenance projects to maintain plant production. Prioritized, instructed and assisted with maintenance work scheduling performed by company and contractor personnel.

Directed urea plant operations for ill plant superintendent for a major production outage caused by tube failure of high pressure heat exchanger.
