Machinist/Shop Lead Georgia Pacific Fort Dodge, IA While working for Georgia Pacific, my responsibilities ranged from millwright and machinist, to safety team volunteer and leader. As Shop Lead, my daily responsibilities included routine and preventative maintenance on conveyors, pumps, dryers, belts, misc. electrical, and plant vehicles. I was not only responsible for my own duties, but to check in with my teammates and other shop techs in order to get work done on a timely, safe, and clean manner. As a member of the Plant Safety Team, I obtained my OSHA 10 and 30 hour certification and also became a trainer for forklift training. This team also was responsible for safety auditing and implemented the VPP Safety Program and Safe Start Safety Program.
January 2008 – May 2016
Wet Mill Technician/Behavior Based Safety Facilitator Tate & Lyle / Cargill Fort Dodge During my time at Tate & Lyle, which later became Cargill, I worked throughout the entire plant as both a technician in the field and as part of the safety team. My initial job was Wet Mill Technician which consisted of running and maintaining multiple machines that began the wet milling process. These machines included centrifuges, all types of conveyors, pumps, tanks, valves and gates. Also during this time, I transitioned to a routine maintenance and contractor coordinator. This position dealt with scheduling of tasks and people throughout the facility for maintenance work. Once Cargill bought the plant, I became part of the safety project support team, which consisted of writing permits, inspecting job sites, and inspected tools and equipment for over 900 contractors working on site. After the plant was open and running I helped implement the Behavior Based Safety Program. This required many hours of planning and tracking of safety meetings and audits that I conducted and also recruited volunteers throughout the plant to participate. After 18 months with the safety team, I was reassigned to help fill positions in the field, working as a feed area tech. This job consisted of running and maintaining equipment in our area and also loading and unloading of rail cars and trucks. Equipment that I was responsible for included dryers, blowers, and conveyors.
