Experience

Jarden Home Brands - Chemical Engineering Manager

October 2013 – Present

•Managed programs related to improving current sealant technology and introducing the product into international markets. Sealants had to be compliant in the market of entry, and cost-effective to manufacture

•Managed the day-to-day operations of the Sealant Manufacturing Plant for closure technology. Member of team that performed gate reviews of new Fresh Preserving products to introduce into the market.

EnerDel - Program Manager August 2009 – July 2013

•Managed programs delivering customized lithium-ion battery systems to clients in the grid energy and transportation markets. Ensured that projects were delivered on time and within budget with Profit and Loss responsibilities.

•Produced Statement of Work, Project Charter, and budgetary documents to kick off product development for various projects. Managed the procurement, manufacture, and delivery of battery systems for the award-wining Volvo C30 Low Emission vehicle, among other vehicle programs in Japan and US.

•Process Engineer - Developed cathode and anode electrode slurry mix processes for mass production of lithium ion batteries. Oversaw the inspection, install and construction of capital equipment and HMI based control systems used in the plant processes. Performed continuous improvement projects on mixing process and developed the associated ISO-9001quality standard documents.

United States Steel - Research Project Engineer November 2007 – May 2009

•Performed investigative research into problems reported from domestic steel mills in the areas of electrolytically coated and hot-dipped coated steel products. Published reports based on findings seen by internal management as well as customer’s management.

•Engineer on a project to increase efficiency of the zinc-electroplating process in the plant. An annual savings of $3,000,000 as a result of the chemical savings from the project.

Robert Bosch (formerly Cobasys) – Manufacturing Engineer December 2005 – November 2007

•Head Engineer in the coating and mixing production operations of cathode and anode electrode materials for large format nickel metal hydride battery systems in both pilot and production scale manufacturing.

•Manufacturing processes were derived utilizing automotive quality standards such as APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, according QS9001 and TS169494 quality standards as a Tier 1 automotive supplier. Utilized DOE techniques to reduce a 10 hour mix time down to 10 minutes.

T/J Technologies Inc. – Engineer / Scientist February 2005 – December 2005

•Project manager of the scale-up production of high capacity Lithium Iron Phosphate and Lithium Titanate cathode materials for lithium ion batteries. Utilized solvent media milling, fluidized bed reactors, and rotary furnace reactors to manufacture cathode powders.

Experience

N.C. A & T S. U. - Graduate Research Assistant September 2002 – September 2004

•Used ultra-sonication and an aqueous reduction method to synthesize binary, ternary and quaternary Platinum based nano-structured electro-catalysts and coated them onto 5 cm2 membrane electrode assemblies for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) operation.

University of Michigan-Chem. Eng. Dept. - Research Fellow September 1997 - February 2005

•Researched the possible patented process for producing a monolith fuel processing and water gas shift catalysts with a molybdenum oxide and carbide wash coat. Wash coat catalysts were used in fuel processors to produce hydrogen for fuel cells from iso-butane.

•Synthesized a phase specific molybdenum nitride catalysts in an anaerobic reactor by temperature programmed reduction methods in a nitrogen rich environment. Materials were used in an electrochemical reactor and as electro-catalysts in a fuel cell.

Analysis & Materials Characterization

•Karl Fischer moisture analysis for ppm levels of water in powders, solvents and slurries

•Used SEM, EDS, XRD, and GC analytical methods for materials characterization

•Brookfield viscometer analysis for the rheological properties of liquids

•BET surface area analysis of porous materials using Micromeritics analytical machines

•Particle size distribution analysis using dry and laser (wet) techniques

Computer Experience

•Environments: Unix/Linux, Windows 8/7/XP/2000/98/95/NT 4.0-5.0, Mac OS 7 – X, iOS 3-7, QSI electronic document control, RSLogix, Allen Bradley HMI, MS Sharepoint
