WORK EXPERIENCE
Product Engineer – Calibration
FORD MOTOR COMPANY, (September 2015 – Present), Dearborn, MI
(Advantage Technical Resourcing, Inc.)
Handle development of sensing and control algorithms/calibrations for global passive safety market, including front, side, rollover, fuel cutoff, and pedestrian protection crash events
Work with safety occupant development engineers and Design & Release (D&R) engineers to develop feasible solutions that ensure occupant performance meets safety requirements.
Support vehicle level testing by instrumentation of sensor abuse vehicles (with DAQ system - Dewetron) and preform sensor misuse and abuse testing
Perform detailed data analysis on various vehicle sensor data using MATLAB to verify data integrity and to set thresholds and deployment times
Create test plans for responsible programs, lead calibration tradeoff discussions, and document airbag deployment strategy
Manage all testing equipment and be responsible for the testing procedures
Accomplishments
Lead safety sensors calibration engineer for Lincoln MKC and Ford Fiesta. Assisted in the sensors calibration for Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition
Handled sensor abuse testing for Ford Fiesta though various road surfaces
Worked to get funding through the Engineering and Testing (ED&T) governance board at both Ford North America (FNA) and Ford of Europe (FoE) working with Ford tools and processes such as Purchase Service Requests (PSR) & Design Change Request (DCR) forms, CPARS, ELMS etc.
Internship
BMI Labs, (June 2014 – August 2014), Brooklyn, NY
Assisted in programming an interface between Brain Machine Interface (BMI) model of primate brain and mechanical robotic arm in ROS (Robot Operating System)
Programmed BMI algorithms using MATLAB mostly using real world data. Interfacing between BMI software and ROS was done using MATLAB.
Simulated brain data on mechanical arm wireless
Achieved a low latency and highly flexible motion for mechanical arm with improvised computer algorithms
Assistant at Suzuki Service Center (Intern)
Mandovi Motors, (June 2010 – August 2010), Mangalore, India
Superseded disassembly of major engine components such as cylinder block, fuel supply system, carburetor, exhaust systems and power train and transmission etc. for maintenance purposes
Gained knowledge in maintenance procedures to replace major engine and transmission components.
Serviced both disk brakes and drum brakes – replaced brake pads, services brake calipers in disk brake equipped cars and work on reworking drum brake shoes and its assembly.
Worked on maintenance and/or replacement of both coil spring and leaf spring suspensions
PROJECTS
Wind Tunnel Design and Fabrication, June, 2013
Designed and fabricated a 12"x12" wind tunnel and achieved a 33m/s air velocity, within 70% of the average commercial wind tunnel specifications
Attained no flow separation through 95% of the length of the test section due to an efficient quadratic bell curve contraction cone, smooth square flow straighteners and 5 mm tip clearance at the axial fan. The electrical system included a 1.5 Horsepower three phase motor.
Built wind tunnel sensors from standard load cells and engineered an electronic control system to amplify and condition the input. Made use of an Arduino for an improvised control system-computer interface for data acquisition.
Developed NACA 2412 wing sections for base line testing and achieved coefficient of lift (Cd), coefficient of drag (Cl) and the Cd/Cl ratio values within 98% of data from professional wind tunnels. (Data source: NASA)
Custom built a wing design to enhance the standard NACA 2412 and achieved an overall improvement of 7% over standard and achieved flow visualization using smoke screen
Recognized and awarded by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), INDIA, for the project and won the state level competition amongst over 300 participants
RASC-AL ROBO-OPS Challenge, June, 2014
Led design and 3D modeling of the rover chassis using SolidWorks and Pro E/Creo Parametric
Created two body design coupled at center hinge to allow chassis rotation about its central axis, allowing for greater articulation over larger obstacles and machined the center hinge mechanism; attaining a tolerance of under 0.2mm
Assisted the controls team to build the mechanical arm and motor speed control sensors where control algorithms were designed using MATLAB
Fabricated other major chassis components including the suspensions, brakes etc.
Design/Build/Fly – AIAA, June, 2014
Constructed a light weight airplane by substituting major fuselage components with carbon fiber rather than conventional wood
Gained 10 percent improved flight time on single battery charge and in overall strength and payload over the previous year’s all-wood based aircraft design
Artificial Temporomandibular Joint Implant (TMJ) Design, May, 2015
Took leadership of the design team to design a custom less invasive TMJ implant using dental adhesives for implant-skull bonding rather than metal fasteners. Used a human skull to measure depth points of the fossa and mandible for better overall implant fit.
Made use of lithium disilicate rather than metals to improve on strength and reduce wear particle generation
Employed bovine pericardium and obtained a 30 percent improvement on frictional coefficient (0.1) over standard polyethylene articulation
Performed structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on designed implant using ANSYS and tested for static stress failure for various jaw positions (Brittle Material)
