Engineer with 10+ years experience in a battery manufacturing plant. Proven achiever with good education and broad experience in Design, Process, and Quality Assurance Engineering. Areas of expertise include CAD design using Solidworks, testing and measurement, lead acid batteries, statistical process control (SPC), small fixtures and tooling, and small injection molded plastic parts made from PPO, PC/ABS, PC/PBT, and Polypropylene (PP).
EDUCATION
MS Materials Science, Missouri State University, Dec 2014 BS Industrial Management, Missouri State University, May 2004 EXPERIENCE
NorthStar Battery Company: ( $10M Profit Telecom Battery Manufacturer) Springfield, MO Position: Design Engineer 6/2009 to 5/2016 (7 Years) Responsibilities: Continuous improvement driven by design changes to battery components. The goals ranged from reduced scrap, inventory expenses, and field returns, improved product performance, and reduced cost to manufacture. Testing and validation of experimental design changes. Product life cycle dmanagement of existing products using BOMs and Drawings. Design sheet metal racks and cabinets to meet customer needs in support of battery sales.
Key Accomplishments:
● Modified plastic injection molded polarity cap design from a glued concept to a snap fit resulting in improved performance and reduced inventory expenses.
● Evaluated and sucessfully deployed adhesive alternatives for use in the assembly process resulting in 100% increase in bond strength with minimal cost impact.
● Completed a masters thesis related to carbon additives to improve performance which involved the entire process of making a battery from raw materials to testing and qualification of the finished product.
NorthStar Battery Company: Springfield, MO
Position: Quality Assurance Supervisor 11/2007 to 5/2009 (1 Year 7 Months) Responsibilities: Supervise a team of eight quality assurance technicians responsible for auditing the production floor. Root cause analysis and disposition of non conforming material. Continuous improvement initiatives such as pay for performance training and scrap reduction improvements. Provide additional quality measures for customers with critical needs. Key Accomplishments:
● Install an Exair vacuum system on the production line resulting in reduced scrap for minimal cost. This concept was later adopted for other uses due to the success. NorthStar Battery Company: Springfield, MO
Position: Quality Assurance Engineer 7/2005 to 10/2007 (2 Years 4 Months) Responsibilities: Help manage high risk manufacturing non conformance issues that arise. Miscellaneous testing and validation of cost reduction and product improvement initiatives. Miscellaneous interdisciplinary support activities as needed.
Key Accomplishments:
● Tested the water permeability of various grades of plastic for use in battery containers. The results from this test are still referenced to this day.
● Tested formation of batteries in parallel vs. in series as a potential cost saving measure. SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE
