Lack’s with 36 stores was the largest independently owned furniture retailer in Texas with annual sales in excess of $120 million. The typical showroom consisted of 40,000 sq. ft. The Midland location is 60,000 sq. ft. and inventory of approximately $900,000. Annual sales averaged $12 million with a net profit of approximately 10%. My responsibilities included:
General Manager
Oversee the training and development of a store staff of approximately 55 employees to ensure that company standards are maintained on a daily basis.
I have supervised the store staff to ensure that we are setting ourselves apart from the competition by delivering outstanding customer service.
I am responsible for analyzing and improving company standards and procedures to strengthen Profit and Loss statements.
Complete weekly store inventories to pinpoint potential areas that could have a negative effect on the Profit and Loss statement. Once found implement a plan of attack to correct.

My Austin team received the General Manager’s Store of the Year Award in 1992. This was given to the store with the largest variance between budgeted profit and actual profit.
In 1992 I successfully completed the LIFO and Interaction management programs.
In 1993 I was one of fifteen individuals’ recruited companywide to participate in the General Manager Assessment Program Phase #1.
In 1995 I was one of six individuals to be recruited companywide to participate in the General Manager Assessment Program Phase #2.
During my 15 years with the company I always received an evaluation rating of Meets Expectations or above expectations. These evaluations were based on Job Knowledge, Communication, Decision Making, Dependability, Initiative, Judgment, Planning, Productivity, Inventory Control, Organization Skills, Teamwork, and Customer Focus.
During my 15 years with the company my 11 stores consistently maintained an Above Expectations rating with regards to total store operations.
Based on my leadership skills I have developed over 20 hourly employees into the management trainee program. Most of these employees have successfully completed the program and are now a tremendous asset to the success of their individual stores.
