While serving as Satellite Operations Supervisor, my duties included the overall management of the satellite operations system, hiring and dismissal of employees, development and implementation of all training and employee development programs within the satellite uplink system including providing a variety of management support services essential to the direction and operation of the organization throughout the nationwide public radio system. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to:

oSetting a bi-weekly 4 day work week schedule in a 24/7 operation for a staff of ten technicians that guaranteed each staff member had at least one weekend day off. Ensuring that the payroll budget was kept as close to allocated funds as possible by not incurring or encouraging a lot of overtime unless necessary.

oDuring a move to a new facility, I developed and implemented a system to operate two separate uplink operations on a 24/7 schedule with the same ten member staff without incurring too much damage to our payroll overtime budget.

oEvaluating on a yearly basis the performance of the staff, inform them of their individual performance, answer any questions concerning same, and providing the evaluation reports to the manager of satellite operations.

oEvaluating resumes for potential new staff, interview potential hires, make a decision and provide a detailed a reason for hiring or rejecting a candidate to the manager of satellite operations. Responsible for handling disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal if necessary.

oScheduling yearly staff meetings to update staff on any new developments or activities that would affect our operation, listen to their concerns and suggestions on how to improve services.

oOrienting and training new staff on all uplink operation and communication equipment. Developed a training manual for this purpose. Required staff to refresh skills when needed.

oServing as the key liaison between satellite operations and clients to ensure that the services we provided were to the customer’s satisfaction. Reported results, concerns and suggestions to the manager of satellite operations.

oWorking with clients to provide cost analysis for any project that would require a technician to be on a remote site. Scheduled staff for out of town remote uplink jobs. Ensure that all of the required equipment and documentation was available and ready for the job in a timely manner.

oResearched and inquired of vendors any information regarding a product that would improve or enhance our satellite operations. Make recommendations for purchases to the manager of satellite operations.

oWrote budget requests, prepared financial plans, procure supplies, equipment and services and monitored expenses to ensure that they would not exceed the division’s budget.

oCoordinated with two separate in house maintenance engineering groups to ensure that the equipment in the satellite operations facility was always in peak operational status.

oServing as floor manager for the emergency evacuation team. Participating in company management level meetings to develop and implement plans to relocate operations to another facility if the occasion for such action arises.

oWorking with my immediate management team to develop and implement a plan to set up and operate a second uplink facility in case of a full evacuation emergency.

oCoordinated plans with another NPR uplink satellite facility to maintain services while we moved if the occasion was needed.
