Education

New College of Florida (State Honors College), Sarasota, Florida

B.A., Biochemistry 5/20/16

Senior Thesis Project: The Isolation and Initial Enzyme Assays of the C. Elegans Protein VF13D12L.3

Independent Study Projects

Senior Thesis Project: The Isolation and Initial Enzyme Assays of the C. Elegans Protein VF13D12L.3 (2014-2016)

Starting from plasmid, isolated the C. elegans protein VF13D12L.3 using chitin bead affinity chromatography.

Subjected protein to enzyme assays using spectrophotometry to measure enzyme activity with substrates.

Performed Bradford assays to ascertain protein concentration obtained by various modifications to the chitin bead affinity chromatography procedure.

Enzyme Over-Expression and Kinetics with C. elegans Lactate Dehydrogenase (2014)

Overexpressed production of lactate dehydrogenase-1 on a plasmid using IPTG to activate a lac operon.

Experimented with changes to temperature, IPTG concentration, and other conditions to obtain a soluble protein.

Learned how to perform enzyme kinetics using a spectrophotometer and measured protein solubility and size using SDS-PAGE.

Bioinformatics (2013):

Lecture-based course taught by researcher from Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) on bioinformatics.

Learned the programming language R as well as several packages such as Bioconductor to be used to generate models from data on gene expression.

Final project was completed that displayed information on highly active genes that controlled apoptosis in lung cells.

Projection of Lewis Structures (2012):

Project to create simple Lewis structures, commonly used to represent molecules, in a computer program.

Program took an inputted SMILES string, and generated a 2-D visual representation in a GUI created in Python.

The program ended up being able to successfully generate simple planar molecules, but unable to handle more complex ones such as ring structures.

Professional Experience
