PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Archivist, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, 03/2015-07/2016
Duties: Management of all aspects of archive containing 1,100 linear feet of material, including 4,000 architectural drawings, 25,000 pieces of correspondence, 5,000 photographs, and 2 TB of surrogate and born digital material spanning the years 1877 to 2005. Management activities include the following: collection development, processing, digitization, preservation, outreach, image licensing, training and supervision of volunteers, museum records transfers, research services, supervision of researcher reading room, exhibit assistance, and an oral history program. I also participated on committees and task forces.
Outcomes: establishment of arrangement scheme (i.e., record groups) for both archival collection and museum records; 72 DACS finding aids; arrangement of two terabytes of electronic records; development and implementation of onsite electronic access system; development and implementation of electronic backup system; strategic assessment of collections management systems; acquisitions totaling over twenty-five thousand dollars; 325 research questions answered; five oral history interviews; two shelf readings; 13 policy documents including archives access and researcher security; one published article; three volunteers trained; over 4,300 images scanned.
Consulting Archivist for Plymouth Congregational Church of Miami, 06/2016-06/2016
I conducted interviews and collection analysis in order to provide recommendations for the organization, processing, preservation, management and digitization of approximately four hundred linear feet of mixed material.
Visiting Archivist for the Pan American World Airways, Inc. Records, University of Miami Special Collections, 12/2012- 03/2015
Duties: oversee all daily activities of the processing of the Pan American World Airways, Inc. Records (extent: 1,600 linear feet of records, photographs, graphic material, and 3D objects) at the More Product Less Process (MPLP) rate of four hours per linear foot; develop an arrangement scheme for the Pan Am records; direct the development of the collection finding aid and its encoding in EAD; prepare all narrative portions of the finding aid; coordinate the online delivery of the finding aid; consult with the cataloger on all cataloging activities related to the project; consult with the preservation librarian on all preservation activities related to the project; curate an updated Pan Am website; curate physical exhibits; direct the development of collection data visualizations; train and supervise assistants and volunteers; track rate of processing; report on progress to the Pan Am project director; promote the collection through blog and newsletter articles; provide reference pertaining to aviation history; and participate in professional organizations and committees.
Outcomes: a folder level DACS finding aid for the Pan American World Airways, Inc. Records, consisting of 352 series with series descriptions and some folder level information, published in Archon; over 130 periodicals cataloged; 15 project assistants trained; acquisition of four Pan Am adjacent collections or accruals; a digital exhibit for the Pan American World Airways, Inc. Records; a subject guide for the University of Miami Libraries Pan Am Collections; a Pan American World Airways, Inc. series outline visualization; five published articles; three Pan Am adjacent collections processed; an aviation map exhibit.
Collection Manager, Archivist (promoted from Assistant Archivist/Collection Manager), The Black Archives, History and Research Foundation of South Florida, Inc., 03/2010-09/2012
Duties: create acquisition policy; establish collection development priorities and tools; oversee processing of 1,200 linear feet of records, photographs, graphic material and 3D objects; train and supervise interns and volunteers, including South Florida Workforce participants (an agency that helps economically disadvantaged adults and youth transition from welfare to work); website development and design with University of Miami Libraries; curate digital and physical exhibits; administer Archon database; design and direct digitization projects; manage digital assets; license images; provide reference pertaining to black history in South Florida; and conduct outreach activities.
Outcomes: a fully implemented processing system based on DACS archival standards, including an acquisition policy, processing manual and work forms; over 130 DACS finding aids; over 30 interns and volunteers trained; a 57-page website published in WordPress; over 700 digitized images; a professional archival storage vault design; five published articles.
Intern, Walter P. Reuther Library, 08/2009-02/2010
Duty: process eight linear feet of printed material, comprising 33 formats, to the item level in order to create bibliography for Cesar Chavez Papers.
Outcome: bibliography for printed materials found in the Cesar Chavez records organized into 33 formats
Intern, Allesee Dance and Opera Resource Library, Michigan Opera Theater, 06/2009-02/2010
Duties: digitize a photograph collection consisting of over 1,000 photographs, entailing selection of photographs, scanning, quality adjustments, and creation of item level description in Archivist's Toolkit; maintain Archivist’s Toolkit database using SQL.
Outcome: digitization of Michigan Opera Theater photographs from 1972 to 2005.
Intern, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 05/2009-02/2010
Duties: process personal paper collections to the folder level, including arrangement and preservation; create finding aids in Archivist’s Toolkit; catalog 3D objects using PastPerfect; catalog finding aids using Koha integrated library system; digitize a photograph collection consisting of over 400 photographs, entailing scanning, quality adjustments and creation of item level description.
Outcomes: 2 collections processed and cataloged; digitization of over 400 photographs.
Student Technology Assistant, Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science, 08/2008-02/2010
Duties: design and develop instructional videos and pamphlets for students and faculty; provide reference, pertaining to current library and information science software and internet technology to students and faculty; research and install computer software and updates; create staff schedule.
Outcomes: four instructional videos, an internal reference FAQ, a template for electronic portfolios, a study guide for the Core Computing Concepts entrance exam.
