EXPERIENCE

SANFRANCISCOSTATEUNIVERSITY GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT Jan 2015 – Current San Francisco, CA

• Implemented an algorithm inMATLAB tomine, clean & process data files for the entire catalog of over 118000Hipparcos stars. Used Python to filter and correlate the datasets. Usedmachine learning algorithms to prove that the planet hosting stars are generally less variable.

• Used various libraries in python like numpy, matplotlib, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn, astroML, gatspy, seaborn, performed a Fourier series analysis to compute and visualize periodograms of unevenly spaced time series star brightness data.

• Currently using Python to compare the Hipparcos dataset with the Transit Ephemeris Refinement andMonitoring Survey (TERMS) dataset to detect correlations and transit points.

INDIAN INSTITUTEOF SCIENCE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Feb 2012 – Mar 2013 Bangalore,India

• Developed a statistical model to simulate vehicular traffic using VISSIMa traffic simulation software.UsedMATLAB to fit a regressionmodel to the the VISSIM simulation data and compared it with the real time vehicular traffic data to fine tune themodel.

PROJECTS

• Using Apache Spark, performed supervised learning problemon a power plant output dataset. The goal was to accurately predict the power output from the given set of environmental readings, obtained fromvarious sensors in a power generation plant; employing linear regression, decision tress & random forests.

• Used Apache Spark’sML library’s Alternating Least Squaresmethod, to build amovie ratings predictor.

• Performed text analysis & entity resolution across two datasets of commercial products (Amazon &Google) using the cosine similarity technique.

• Using the graphlab-create library in python built a housing price predictor using multiple linear regression.

• Performed a web server log analysis with Apache Spark.

• Developed a simple word count application to analyze a large volume of unstructured text data using Apache Spark.

PUBLICATIONS

• Stellar Activity and Exclusion of theOuter Planet in the HD99492 System in The Astrophysical Journal (ApJ, 820, L5) published.

• Photometric data analysis of all the Hipparcos stars for the Transit Ephemeris Refinement andMonitoring Survey (TERMS).(ongoing)

CERTIFICATIONS

• Introduction to Apache Spark fromUniversity of California, Berkeley through edX.

• DistributedMachine Learning with Apache Spark edX.

• Big Data Analysis with Apache Spark through edX.

• Machine learning by Dr.AndrewNg fromStanfordUniversity on Coursera. (ongoing)

• Processing Big Data withHadoop in Azure HDInsight through edX.(ongoing)

• AppliedMachine Learning using AzureMachine Learning through edX.(ongoing)
