PERSONAL PROFILE

I am an enthusiastic and hard-working scientist with the ambition to pursue a rewarding career in the pharmaceutical industry. My interpersonal skills are excellent and I enjoy meeting new people, who find me reliable, trustworthy, well-organised and adaptable. I am also determined, goal-oriented and have a passion for scholarship and research. As I have the ability to remain calm under pressure, I work well to deadlines and respond rapidly in a dynamic work environment. I have the charisma and communication skills to work effectively in a team, combined with the confidence to assume a leadership role if required. My conscientious nature ensures that I always give my best, either with individual responsibilities or group work. I am intelligent and creative, and have outstanding organisational and time management skills.

UNIVERSITY EDUCATION Kingston University Sept 2013-16

BSc 1st class (Hons) Pharmaceutical Science

My BSc Experience

I chose Pharmaceutical Science as an alternative to Pharmacy because it gave me a broad understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. The most enjoyable aspects of the course were Organic & Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Development and my project dissertation. After I graduate, my long-term ambition is to gain employment in the pharmaceutical industry, where I can contribute to the development of new drugs. Completing my degree has left me even more fascinated by this area of research.

During my final year, I enjoyed my dissertation immensely and achieved one of the highest marks in the year (78%). During my project I got to learn how to use the HPLC instrument, GC and Mass spectrometry, filling the COSSH form. I managed my lab work efficiently under space and time-pressure, demonstrating that I can focus on long-term individual projects. My project, which concerned the release of heavy metals pollutants into the environment, carrying Principal component analysis (PCA) on all elements of periodic table, trained me to be patient, hard-working and confident. Firstly, I refluxed an alcoholic suspension of either cypress leaves or dust in the fume cupboard for 1 hour to determine which was a better biomonitor. I then used mass spectrometry, AES and AAS to quantify the metal concentrations. I have used other techniques, including acid base titration, recrystallization and vacuum filtration during the drug development module to synthesize propionamide as colourless, sparkling, needle-shaped crystals.

Science Foundation Course Kingston University Sept 2012-13

The Science Foundation Course was a combination of AS and A2 A-level Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This one-year course afforded me the basis of scientific knowledge needed to undertake my degree.
