I worked as the IT Tech 14 in the Office of Disability Systems (ODS Validation Coordinator). I was involved with eDIB and the other ODS Projects that involve the Electronic Disability Folder and other major programmatic systems. I was responsible for conducting the planning and coordination of validation efforts across all of ODS and implementation into production. I am responsible for systems validation planning and developing comprehensive validation plans and techniques for each of the ODS releases. I also, on a regular basis, have input into PSA’s and SDP’s for these same releases. I use the SSA Systems Life Cycle methodologies on a regular basis to review requirements for correctness and use them in creating and building test records for the validation process. I often attend meetings that pertain to “requirements gathering” due to my expertise in disability applications. I lead and direct the validation teams in preparation of test cases and scenarios for each validation period for each release of software. I have lead and directed the validation team through eDIB releases 4.1 through 32.0 covering 13 years.
I serve as the technical expert for coordination of validation efforts and the interfaces needed with such programs as Title 2, Title 16, MCS, MSSICS, MBR, SSR, DICARS, CFRMS, DMA, SNO, and Internet online disability applications. I direct and coordinate overall strategies and activities as related to the validation effort to validate and implement disability applications. I am responsible for the planning and executing of the validation effort for each ODS project that involves new functionality and or changes to current software. Also during each phase of the validation, I am responsible for the monitoring of the testing effort and the changes made to the software based on defects detected during the scope of the projects release. Developers, requirement analyst, and validators come to me with complex problems, situations, and issues involving the processing of disability claims.
I do direct and lead and coordinated technical discussions and meetings with different organizations and project teams that interface with ODS applications. These discussions help improve our software development from one release to another so that we can deliver a quality product for the user community. I keep our staff as well as staff of other interfacing components informed of systems design tools, methods and techniques used in the validation and design of ODS software. Personnel from the interfacing systems depend on my knowledge of ODS processes to assist them in solving problems and ironing out requirements needed to have a successful interface to occur.
I work and direct as a leader hand in hand with the development staff’s in web based disability applications using software development principles to resolve issues and problems that are discovered during the validation process. On a regular basis, developers and “other” Tech 13 and 14’s come to me for disability application processing advice. I often lead and direct discussions that involve software strategizing for the current and future ODS releases that will involve a broad and across the board effect of the different SSA programmatic systems as they relate and interface ODS applications. I review and recommend strategies that allow for the development of software in the validation and development environments known as “Regions” to not adversely affect other systems in that same Region.
I also direct efforts in resolving production problems reported by Field personnel for Electronic Disability Collection System( EDCS) and Electronic View (EVIEW). Problem reports are analyzed and discussed by representatives from Requirements, Development and myself as the lead representative of the Validation Staffs to find and implement solutions or alterative solutions after advising senior management of possible impact those solutions may have on other disability projects as a whole.
I do regularly attend meetings on a weekly basis with my Division Director, Branch Chief’s, Team Leaders and other Tech 13 and 14’s to discuss application updates, technical information, issues, problems, validation and application release progress concerning disability applications.
I do lead and direct meetings and technical discussions with SSA mainframe applications (MCS, MSSICS, MBR, SSR, and Internet) that involve interfaces of those programs with disability applications
I also attend eDib user meetings to discuss present and future issues regarding the electronic processing of disability applications. I attend DB2 database meetings on a weekly basis.
I do prepare and present written and oral reports to senior SSA Management at the Division, Branch, and Staff level concerning different aspects, software strategies and updates of the ODS validation processes.
I also informed them of new concepts in the world of automated testing tools and techniques and I often present and recommend ideas on how these could improve the current validation process.
I provide detailed information on the status of the validation and testing process to include testing interfaces with other SSA components. The reports include results of testing in the “Validation” environment. Quality Center reports are prepared by me and delivered to upper management and user groups to keep them abreast of situations concerning the release. This information is gathered using project management tools and techniques to keep track of ODS validation status information. This information is also useful in assessing workload disbursements to validation staffs and brings to light the possible necessity of increasing or decreasing our manpower requirement.
I do direct and take the lead in negotiating and meeting with other SSA organizations and workgroups for technical support and resources to assist in the validation processes in ODS. I am in regular contact with OSES, DICARS, ORSIS OAASIS, OAS, ODP and other inter-component project teams whenever it is necessary to test interface validation records that require resources from the various factions. The testing of these transactions between these different areas that interface with the “Electronic Folder” is vital to the success of “Folderless Processing” of disability claims and the development of future software in SSA Systems as a whole.
