I am an ex-military Patrol Medic who served with 2REP. Since 2001 I have provided medical cover for security teams, oil & gas exploration and film/media crews.

Mainly covering French speaking roles in Africa I have also undertaken contracts in Iraq, Yemen, Albania and Ukraine.

Working world wide in austere environments my duties have included but are not limited to emergency medical cover, primary health care, clinic set ups, patrol medic, translator, instructor, field manager, medical liaison, UXO cover, ambulance set up, medevac set up, HLO and medical cover on protection details.

History

Aug 1996 – Present

Remote site medic, Remote Trauma Ltd, Panama. Medical support given by fast rescue craft to a crew and cast of a French TV programme “The Island”. These were French speaking projects which lasted 3 x 6 weeks on a remote Pacific Island and involved emergency and primary health care along with boat handling.

Hostile environment medical cover – RMSI, Eastern Ukraine. While working with Observers (OSCE) in the troubled Eastern Ukraine, emergency medical coverage along with primary health care coverage, was provided to 100+ personnel involved with this project. Daily patrols along with advanced medical training for team members was also provided. This was a 12 week posting. I received a letter of commendation from the OSCE patrol commander on this contract.

Remote site medic, RMI, Tullow, Kenya. Covering 350 personnel on a land seismic project in the north east of Kenya. Primary health care, emergency medical cover 24/7 along with first aid training and HSE responsibilities were some of the many roles covered during this project Remote site medic, RLM, Fugro/EM Drilling, Sierra Leone. Covering 5 teams embarked on an environmental impact study around the Bumbuna Dam in the Eastern area of Sierra Leone. This was a 6 week contract which involved the setup of a medical emergency response plan, primary health care, hygiene issues and emergency cover for the 48 expat and local employees while based at a small camp in the area. This contract ended due to the Ebola outbreak. Remote site medic, FM, SOCO, DR Congo. Initially based in Goma then Ishasha in the East of the DRC, work comprised of clinic set up, primary health care, emergency response set up and implication, HSE duties, French/English translator.

This was a seismic survey project on and around Lake Edward in North Kivu. The project progressed slowly due to rebel activity in the area. Remote site medic, RMI, Ophir Energy, Gabon. A short 3 week contract was undertaken to audit 10 hospitals and clinics in Libreville and Port Gentil to establish the best medical cover should an emergency medical evacuation be required from 3 offshore installations developing in the area. This was a French speaking contract.

Remote site medic. FM, Baker Hughes. Iraq Setting up and running the Baker Hughes Base clinic Basra. Training security personnel in medical emergency procedures. HSE duties. Hygiene inspections. Covering a crew of 350 local and Expat personnel.

Remote site medic, FM, BHPBilliton, Medical cover for a team of 100 Expats and local BHPB employees on a bauxite exploration project in the Sangaredi area of Guinea. A bush clinic was set up for field exploration along with a camp clinic. This was a French speaking job covering emergency medical evacuations, primary health care and HSE roles while living in tented accommodation in the field.
